Forums - Sony - Codemasters: No love for the PSP

Quite harsh words for Sony's portable.

Codemasters Studios VP Gavin Cheshire delivers damning assessment of Sony’s portable console
In what surely amounts to something of a PR nightmare for all involved, Codemasters Studios’ VP Gavin Cheshire has labelled Sony’s PSP as “a bollocking useless waste of space”.

The blast comes despite the high-profile release of Codemasters’ licensed racing title F1 2009 on the PSP late last year.
“Well, speaking as a person who bought a PSP, the problem was that I always thought, because it was a better screen than iPods, that I’d be doing more with it,” Cheshire told Edge.
“But it was such a bollocking useless waste of space; just getting stuff on it was ridiculous. That was its downfall.
“Relatively speaking, we didn’t do too badly on F1 PSP. Regarding the future, PSP Go’s a lovely device, but our senior VP bought one the day it came out and has a great story, because he ended up on some customer support line just trying to do basic stuff. He had to re-download his software, do an immediate firmware update, and that’s your user experience.

It's no secret that western developers have a hard time with the PSP but few of them have been vocal about it.

Well, sorry PSP. Some people don't love you. Keep selling in Japan to prove they are wrong ^^

The PSP is just fine, it's his company that is a useless waste of space.

Not often you hear a whine like that come out of a devs mouth. I give him credit for having the balls to do it, and laugh at him actually doing it.

That's really mean!

:) It proves technology needs to be handled by great games... like PS3.

Yeah, well... I don't like Codemasters or any of their games, while I do like the PSP a lot. That's how I see it.

Codemasters is the god of racing games.
And god is always right.

He doesn't seem to be complaining about the PSP as a platform for moving games, at least not F1 2009. He's just had a shitty user experience with the PSP and he's not afraid to grouse about it.
