Forums - Sales - FF13 sales very close in UK: PS3: 54% 360: 46%

GTA is a much bigger Playstation franchise and the 360 had no issue beating the PS3.

I'd say GTA isn't as closely tied to PlayStation image wise as Final Fantasy has been the last decade.  Every GTA last gen was on Xbox 1, while no FFs were.

Every GTA eventually came to the Xbox, but that 6 months after the release. GTA was much bigger than FF and still is, and really provided the PS2 with the biggest franchise around until COD.

GTA had a huge userbase on the PS2, much bigger than FF and the 360 came and just outsold the PS3 by a very nice margin.

Wait

4.7 million 360 in Uk vs 3 million PS3s yet PS3 FF13 sold better even with FF13 360 only adverts.

That's not all that good.

Considering all the negative press the 360 port's garnered, plus the historical brand association with PlayStation, I'd say it's pretty good honestly.  Both versions are looking like they're beating the the odds in a way, multiplatform was definitely the right move.

Gaming press, which is irrelevent to the average consumer.  And given MS ad push, comapred to Sony lack there of.  Also given the fact PS3 owners just got Mag Heavy Rain and now GoW3, PS3 FF13 is fighting with serious competition for consumer dollars.

And Given MS bosted 360 FF13 would out sale PS3 FF13.

Its not all that good.

+9 million sold, multi was good.

Again, it's not about series popularity, it's about brand association.  GTA just wasn't as closely tied to "PlayStation", it always had a strong PC presence and then Xbox ports.  With GTAIV, you had some degree of series track record on the previous Xbox.  With FFXIII, you're basically starting from scratch*, all the series fans played FFX on their PS2s and FFVII on their PS1s.

* I know about FFXI, but that might as well be a separate series given it's core base and MMO structure.

17 million sold on the PS2.

That's just one game vs a 5 million selling game. It's not the same.

FFXIII is irrelevant to the average consumer.  Probably because it's not made by Nintendo or isn't a FPS.

For FFXIII's actual market, the industry press is the loudest voice they listen to.  And 360 RPGers are likely more burned out by just getting Mass Effect 2, a much more comparable game to FFXIII.

Agreed.  GTA is far far more popular than FF.  FF is far far associated with "PlayStation" than GTA.  I'm happy we understand each other. :)

GTA was big franchise for Sony even Jack Trenton mentioned how much the franchise meant last E3 when Agent was announced.

Hoping that the 360 selling well means that other Final Fantasy sequels (not Versus) end up also on the 360.

Just want to play good games

I'm sure XIII-2 will be on 360.  XIV is all but confirmed already.  Versus may make it too honestly, but that one's far from a sure bet.
