Forums - Nintendo - So much for the so called "Fad" huh? Sony should beg for mercy.

I remember when the Wii was first launched, The bias people of the gaming community labeled the Wii and everything motion sensing a "FAD" with a limited life span, 4 Years later the Wii is way ahead of the mighty PS2 in timeline leaving it's competitors a long way behind.

hense the word "Long"

Now I'm a Multiformat gamer (aka no fanboy) but I do feel what Sony have done with "move" It's just embarrassing, how can Sony sleep with themselves at night knowing they copied the Wii's motion sensing feature. They should of just got paper and traced the Wii mote.

Wouldn't it of made more sense for all three consoles to focus on thier "Strengths" rather than their weaknesses?

The PS3 install base are mainly 18 - 35 year olds.... are they going to make the switch from Metal Gear to Basic Table Tennis?

Your thoughts?

Malstrom points out that it's a business move to try to cut off the disruptor (the Wii) from moving upmarket. And he's not just making that up. He points to book passages that note when this happens in other businesses. Oh, and it's not likely to stop Nintendo.

Well I disagree that Sony's strenghts is in the 18-35 male area. Although this seems to be the majority PS3 owner, usually this wasn't Sony's userbase. On PS1, PS2, and PSP I'd say the majority userbase is/was quite diverse. Was represented by Sony who had a wide range of titles for many ages and people, even some with the Eyetoy that is being "recast" now.

I do see it as obvious, that Sony has been influenced by Nintendo heavily in their approach with "Move", but I don't think the base they are going after is new territory. It's just they are trying to regain what they already had. And this might have a lot to do with their larger focus on a high-end machine rather than a gaming machine for everyone.

I still see the biggest problem facing Sony, is an identity for "Move" that is uniquely them. For a product so perceptibly similar to the Wii, they need the "Sony" part to show more than ever and I'm just not seeing them do that.

I can't see Nintendo slowing down any time soon.

They are the iPod of Motion sensing!

"They are the iPod of Motion sensing!"

BTW, I was actually thinking of the Zune when I saw the move. As in it could be a better product, but it's such a blatant copycat it won't matter.

Meh, Sony saw what was popular and have attempted to perfect it. If they succeed, its great for them and gamers. I don`t see why everyone on the interwebz has to take it so seriously, there's a huge market out there that Nintendo has successfully tapped into, why shouldn`t Sony have a crack?

Eh it really is not the same thing. But first impressions indeed it is. But w/e who really cares? Some good competition lead to Nintendos new strategy. This competition will lead someone to a improved or the next big change in gaming.

I agree that the previous Playstation consoles have appealed to a wider audience.

(I owned PS1 & PS2)

The problem with move is that..... It's a traced Wii mote, at least Natal has a slightly different way of the motion execution.

The bolded part should be copy and pasted in every move vs wiimote thread over and over again untill people stop or get banned for not reading it.

Edit: Infact we should all be putting it in our sigs untill theese threads die out.
