I'm sure many nervous exec's at Sony are thankful you feel that way. However, thinking the PS3 will have a user base of AT LEAST 20 million by next year is pure speculation. With a huge increase in sales, it is positive. Regardless, the PS3 user base WILL have increased, that is certain, but how many consoles will Wii60 have in the marketplace? Over 27 million right now, and add another year in growth to that.... If the good games keep coming out for the 360, and finally for the Wii, it will be harder for Sony. If I had to buy a next gen console and I didn't own one at all, I'd look to see who had the most games I wanted, not just a few.
Anything can happen, and Sony might pull out the ultimate comeback and sell 15 million consoles this year, but no one really knows if they are capable of doing it. Analysts don't, stockholders are watching the PS3 EAT money, and the Wii PRINT money. At some point the PS3 is going to have to either turn around or die.
I have a PS2. I did believe in the PS3, I waited in line for a day and a half and bought one on release day, I no longer own it, sold it as it collecting dust. I didn't buy a Wii until June, I now have 12 games. Actually 18 as I bought 3 for Christmas at TRU, and preordered 3 that were not yet released.
This year was a complete suprise to almost eveyone from the industry to the consumers. I don't think anything is guaranteed anymore.
Just remeber, Sony now has to fight back their new image of being the percieved loser of this generation already. A year after being King of the Mountain. It took Nintendo 10 years after being toppled to comeback, how long will it take Sony?

Jandre02, the Wii sold 14 million systems in 12 months, in order for your prediction to come true, the PS3 would have to exceed that number. Do you honestly believe the PS3 will sell an average of 1,175,000+ units a month for the next 12 months? If so, could you please tell me what the Sony Kool-aid tastes like. It must taste damned good but I don't want to risk the mind bending side effects myself.
Yeah thats why I think it is going to take 2 holidays. But even then it might be a stretch....

I've tasted the Sony Kool-Aid & The Nintendo Red Bull, the Sony Kool-Aid doesn't taste like it used to....
Sega's been in the entertainment biz long enough to know the first year after launch settles everything.
There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
