Is Playstation Move an Improvement over Wii-Remote?

Yes, very much so. 46 35.94%

Yes, somewhat. 31 24.22%

No. 50 39.06%

Total:127

Right now it looks more like a tradeoff than a cut-and-dried improvement.

Pros

- Wireless nunchuk
- Always calibrating
- Perhaps more sensitive
- Camera has other uses

Cons

- No accelerometer in nunchuck
- More expensive, at least for initial camera cost
- No speaker
- Perhaps worse as a pointer
- Can't double as a gamepad

No really, it means that 2/3 of those who voted consider it an improvement, to varying degrees.

I was just commenting on the fact that each option was even, not the Yes/No was even.

I don't know why people assume the Starter kit won't come with the "PS nunchuck"... Imo it seems likely it will, and if it does, then the starter kit is a pretty good deal. Let's say it costs 90 bucks: it includes motioncontroller with nunchuck peripheral, PS Eye and a game (hopefully a quality game). That can't possibly be considered a bad deal.

How can it be an improvement when it's basically the same thing...

All I see is a better ergonomics, but... the D pad is now useless (doesn't double as buttons as it's on the wrong hand, FPS players will say differently, but try moving and using the dpad at the same time... yeah...).... and from what I read here, it lacks one accelerometer... (nice for boxing/fighting games like the yakuza one they demoed)
I'd say it's utter fail from sony... if you use something as a template, do not remove usefull features... (only thing ok to remove was the speaker... fun, but not needed).

Oh and i'm definitely not convinced by the ball thing....

What is the difference with the dualshock? separates in 2 and has a better accelerometer...

(does it even have rumble?)

Well the wii waggle controls even with wii motion plus are horrible, trying to play wii sports resort was a complete joke along with all other waggle controlled games. The PS waggle stick appears to be just as bad if not worse in terms of controls, except this time the games look graphically better. Both appear to be horrible and i don't see how they appeal to anyone over the age of 7.

Now that we have established that Sony's motion controller is not a ripp-off of Nintendo's Wii Remote (a prototype was demonstrated as early as 2004, long before Wii http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbSzmRt7HhQ ), I'd like to ask: Do you think Playstation Move is an improvement over Wii Remote which will make new kinds of games possible?

This video shows something very different from what the "Move" is now. The video shows a wand (something to make tricks) and not a motion controller that will work with some real games.

You can't even call it "prototype" if the idea is completely different.

Sony is obviously trying to succeed using what Nintendo made in order do succeed. Only a blinded person can't see what they are doing: Bigger support for the casual market, a motion controller very similar to the Wii Remote and a game VERY similar to Wii Sports (with the same premise and with "sport" in the name).

Playstation Move is probaly an improvement over Wii-Remote, but not a improvement over Wii Motion plus (which is 1:1).

So yes, it's a rip-off of Nintendo's Wii Remote.

Can't double as a gamepad?

You know, like in NSMBWii, Punch Out!!, Metroid: Other M, NES games on the VC, etc.. The Move is a little less flexible than the wiimote. Not a big deal, but it could lead to more expense if you want to support many players in different games. A wiimote alone can work as a gamepad, the Move needs an added sub-controller.

I suppose I could just roll that in under the 'more expensive' point.
