Oi guys, leave the French alone. The French (and many nations in the EU) are getting billions in subsidies and all they have to do is let the Germans have a little bit of control over their lives and sacrifice a bit of their national pride.

Better this way than encouraging them to go down their more traditional route to domination of Europe.

Germany coudnt take over europe even if they wanted to .They might have been strong in 1940 but those days are over.

Well... we could stop paying for this whole EU-bullshit - that would cause some trouble. :D

Actually it would be quite nice to invest in our own country again - the EU finances are fubar. The financial burden of the EU is unjustly shared.

@topic: I never felt the UK was so different from the rest of Europe - actually, mentality wise, I feel way closer to the UK than to France or Italy.

Yes I do - kind of - according to your link we pay the most, but not for the most. The chart in your link at least seems fairer than it was before, but it contains estimated data. I was referring to the past and just assumed nothing had changed. ^^

But most of the data doesn't add up, so I don't know which to trust.

Yeah I know and seeing the numbers in your link it seems fine, but I've seen some "horrible" numbers before and since I don't know which are real, there's really no point in discussing them. But if you're interested:

From the German Wikipedia:

2005 || 2008 in Mio. €

Germany -7141 || -8774

France -3051 || -3843

Italy -2947 || -4101

UK -2865 || -844 (typo?)

Netherlands -2035 || -2678

Sweden -1060 || -1463

Belgium -536 || -721

Austria -365 || -356

Denmark -225 || -543

Luxembourg -93 || -22

Finland -70 || -319

So it seems to move in the right direction, but in the 90s and early 00s it was really out of whack.

Yeah, the NA is a bit unbalanced... but that's the problem when you base it on real geography... they couldn't of made it worth less, but there was no other ways to have invasion really.

Reminds me of the good old days, when we had over 6 people wanting to play at a time... so we made a giant Europeon map with different zones for 8-16 players....

and we never got more then 4 players at a time after it was done... making all that work worthless.

Also, since you brought up monopoly... I think it's worth noting that the Orange properties are actually the most valuable.

Yeah, I know. I've got this cool Monopoly book from 1974 or something that's really great. (Well, "valuable" is relative.  Green is the awesomest to have hotels on, but it's so expensive you can't really do it without another monopoly funding you.  Orange and Dark Blue are probably the best overall but Light Blue is the best on a budget.)

I played a game of it recently, and I wasn't doing too well. I got 2/3 of the Green, and 2/3 of the Orange, but both times the same guy took the last one. Then some bastard got the Boardwalk monopoly and started building it up, so I traded both of my Greens for the last Orange and $200. I was able to build some houses, but so was Mr. Boardwalk. But only one guy ever landed on him (going bankrupt).

And then right at the end of the game Boardwalk was in Just Visiting so I gambled all my money on hotels; he got a 12 and I was like DAMMIT and then he got "Go back 3 spaces" and I was like MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!! And then my Green buddy landed on another hotel and Boardwalk landed on the third hotel and that was pretty much the game.

P.S.  As for your custom Risk board, that sounds pretty interesting.  Any pictures?

UK = US dogs

thats pretty poor. now if i said something similar about the french id be banned no doubt.

theres loads of material... but I'll leave it.

To a certain extent, though, it's true. Blair was America's faithful lapdog (or rather, lap-cheshire-cat) for ten years, and Brown is slightly better, but when America wants to invade a country, who's always first in line to help?

That's part of the reason I am a fan of Europe and the EU. And why many Brits would defend Europe in an argument.
