It's tenuous, but a fumbled Google translation of a Japanese report on stereoscopic 3D tech has led to reports that Sony could release its planned 3D update for PS3 on June 10.

Slapping AV Watch's report through Google translate brings up the sentence: "'LX900 Sun June 10, according to the release, PlayStation 3 and update, 3D stereoscopic gaming titles to launch' he said."

The "translation", to be fair, might as well be in Spanish, but it has a date and the words 'PS3 update' in the same sentence, so let's call it speculation-worthy - unless there are any Japanese-speaking CVG readers out there who'd be so kind as to translate it to actual English in the comments field below... 

Sony has confirmed plans to release a 3D firmware update around the same time that the first 3D TVs are due to arrive - which is this summer.

What I'm most curious about here, is actually whether or not this update will be our next one. Because that means we have gone a pretty long time without an update, and so this could infact be pretty huge.

If it's just adding 3D, I hope it's optional.

If it's the next big update, it's going to be more than that.

I read somewhere where they said ps3 system was able to handle 3D already so 1 step closer - just need to buy a sony tv? xD

The 3D update might be part of the Premium PSN.

You need a new 3D TV that sony will release later in the year for 3d gaming

This will be the day I purchase PS3...or not.

I already have a 3D capable TV...2 of them actually. If PS3 supports the checkerboard 3D format in gaming or bluray its a must buy. If it doesn't and requires you to buy the new 3000 dollar TVs...ill pass.

I can already tell you that it isn't...sorry man.

June 10th would make it a very long wait in between FW updates.

I would hope Sony has more than just 3D for the next FW.
