Forums - General - The Hurt Locker "issue"

Hurt Locker at the Academy Awards Sunday night, won six Oscars.

Now what angers me the most is this. The film is set in 2004. It says so at the beginning of the film. But, that doesn't stop one of the actors Owen Eldridge from getting an Xbox 360. If i'm correct, xbox360 wasn't out until November 2005.

Eldridge uses his Xbox 360 to play Gears of War, that wasn't out until 2006.

irrelevant! oh, and 360 is bad for you because it reinforces warfare neurosis! or maybe he was a beta tester.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

You got us there. I guess there's a disqualification and Inglorious Basterds wins the Oscar by default.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I haven't seen the movie so I have no idea if they even mention the name of the game but that could be why they went with it.

This...angers you? A continuity problem in a movie? Jeez. Good luck enjoying most movies ever created then, since most have major issues with continuity.

Also I know the movie begins in 2004, but there are a lot of jumps in time. Is there any notification later on in the film that it's still 2004 and not a later year? It's been a while since I've seen it, and I'm not so anal about these things so I tend not to notice them.

Here's what good old IMDB has to say - note most films have tons of stuff like this and artistically it's considered fine.

The director wanted a key character to be playing a violent combat game at a certain point and chose Gears/360 to have the (I'd say dubious in context) honour.

From IMDB:

Anachronisms: There is a scene where Specialist Eldridge is playing Gears of War on an Xbox 360 when Colonel Cambridge enters the room to counsel him. The Xbox 360 was first released 2005; the game Gears of War was first released in November 2006. At the beginning of the film a title card specifies that the setting is Baghdad in 2004.

Anachronisms get used to them. The movie Girl With a Pearl Earing features a freaking Bike which wasn't invented until several centuries afterward.

lol that's pretty funny.

I care more about it being a boring ass movie then a mistake like that though.

Harry Potter had a PS1 on the UK in 1994. The difference is that Goblet of Fire wasn't boring.

Harry Potter films aren't set the same years as the books.
