Forums - Website Topics - Why Ad Blocking is devastating to the sites you love

If the ads weren't so annoying and "in your face," like having audio that automatically starts, and scrolling ads go right across the middle of the screen, then more people wouldn't have incentive to use the ad blocker. I would have absolutely nothing against the ads if they were simply banners and standstill images that you could just click on. It's those ones that basically force themselves on you that get to me.

I love this site and appreciate what you guys do here, but at the same time I find something wrong in making people feel bad simply for visiting the site and not wanting to deal with those annoying ads.

I block only flash and those annoying popups. I don't really care about ads that are some pretty pictures with a link.

Danm, this was the best post I ever read. Money makes the world go around no matter how I like it. Keep bringing me the stuff I love about this place, and I'll do my part.

Ad page redirects + pop ups = I run an ad blocker. Don't like it? talk to the people who made that glorious add on.

How is it their fault? I mean they're making the tool but you're the one using it.

I think you should give VIP codes to those who don't use ad block ioi, and charge $15 for those who use it.

I block all ads that really annoy me..But this Blur thing doesn't annoy me at all.
I think anyone who says they care about ad:s is somewhat...weird.
This is the internet.

It's noone's business if we use ad blockers or not. I really don't care if it hurts the sites I visit. Normal picture ads are no problem for me, but the redirects and flash pop ups are when it gets to be too much. I didn't even use an ad blocker until this site started using those.

Sorry ioi, but I like this site without the ads, I don't like it with. And it's something that won't change with this thread. If you turn off some content for adblockers, I'm fine with it, I'll just get my info from somewhere else.

I think that instead of trying to make us guilty, you'd better find another way to make money out of this website.

Actually... this thread makes me like this site less :-/

Good luck anyway running your business!

Some sites go insane overboard on ads though. Not naming any names, but there is one video game charting site that I visit where the main page has about 6 flash ads going through it and the forums often have multiple video ads that play automatically with sound, are stuck in between posts and are complemented with about 4 other flash ads on the page. The site is a buggy mess in my browser and brings it to its knees more than any other site that I visit.

I could totally understand someone ad blocking a site like that. I know it can't be cheap to run a site, but there has to be a better method than the insane measures that certain sites go to.

^This!

Sorry but there are plenty of other FREE gaming sites out there that don't stick all those horid flash ads down your throat, until they are more user friendly and safer (remember the virus issue here, and you wonder why people don't trust these ads anymore) I have no intention of unblocking them, and even if i didn't block them I wouldn't click them anyway!

If I didn't block the ads here I wouldn't visit, it's as simple as that, my one year old pc grinds to a halt when visiting this site, no other sites I visit cause this, this is why I block the ads (and because they annoy me)

ioi, if money is an issue setup a paid subscription model (I do this on my sites), if people want to support the site they will pay (as an option), that way you can get rid of all these annoying ads that put people off visiting here.
