Just curious as to why the install base being quadrupled only impacts first-week sales and not overall sales? That doesn't seem like it makes sense.
Part of the reason Halo sells so well is because it's the game that if you buy it, along with COD games now, that you KNOW you'll always have people to play with online and on your friends list. I think people underestimate this fatcor in sales. People who aren't even big shooter fans buy these games for the social aspect of Live.
I still think the numbers will be huge if the demo beta generates positive buzz. |
There is two ways to look at this, you have the 'Those who wanted any Halo game would have already bought the 360 and have Halo 3 right now so they would just upgrade to Reach' then theres the 'The install base is omegaly huge now so Reach will pwn all!' I sit on the former reasoning but I guess in a sense I meant after the first few weeks it will sell at about the same pace. So giving it roughly a 1-3 million advantage over Halo 3. Although to me this is very optimistic. But I really do not care if it sells like ODST or better than 3, just as long as its still fun to play. Who knows, will the install base and all the hype make it a 20 million seller or will it just sell on par with halo 3? I sure don't lol
I also say hell no. Halo 3 had epic sales, Halo Reach will have great sales.
I say 8 million at the most.
I think it will. I also think it'll have a chance at beating Modern Warfare's opening week on the 360.
Everyone please ignore the x360 fans which are saying it will outsell Halo 3. Because it will NOT.

You and me both. This is just ammo for ps3 fan to laugh at us later. Seriously...talk about hope.

No, for the simple fact that many consumers will think Halo Reach is a spin-off of Halo 3.
The only thing named Halo that could potentially outsell 3 is Halo 4.
Plus, People have gone COD crazy; that IP will impact things.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Has there been a franchise even close to this level on Playstation or Xbox that HASN'T had a full sequel sell better than its predecessor? I can only think of a couple examples, and it's more when they sequalized to death ala Tony Hawk or Guitar hero or something.
There's no indication anywhere that this wouldn't sell at least as well.

You said sequel 2 times...that's where you're wrong. This isn't a sequal, it's a prequel. Please go find me history were a prequel outsold the game it came after. Resident evil zero? MSG3? I'm pretty sure they didn't.
I think you're underestimating what master chief is to the halo franchise. Look at ODST. I expect reach to do much better then ODST, but not Halo 3 league.

ODST wasn't a true sequel, as has been discussed a billion times. It was more an experiment and fans service.
And Reach is a sequel to the game, not the story.
I love the Halo fiction - all the books, the Halopedia, the anime. But virtually no one's buying the games for the story. Halo is all about gameplay, and they build what story there is around it. It doesn't matter when it's set or whether MC and Cortana is in it. You're underestimating the relevance of the actual game here.
If people bought games simply for the story, the best seller list would be very very different. Gameplay, gameplay, gameplay. I really loved the Super MArio Kart story. It was enthralling. And WiiFit. The only games in the top 50 worldwide this week for example, that sell because of story in any argument are probably Mass Effect 2 and Heavy Rain? Maybe an RPG? Certainly not shooters.
And by far the most popular element of a Halo game is multi-player, in which Master Chief has no part. The only reason ODST sold less is that everyone already owned the multiplayer.
We'll see who's right in September. *shrug* But I don't buy your argument in the least. It just doesn't make sense when you actually look at the way games sell.
