I plan to get this game. But not at $40.

Yet you will pay 50 for Mario Kart?  This game is every bit as good and fun as mario kart, yet it is not worth 40?  That make absolutely no sense!  This is what I can't stand, people get Mario games because of the name.  New Super Mario Bros Wii is fantastic and I love the game.  Then I also had Mario Party 8 and that game sucked.  It is a mind thing, nintendo is not the only company that make great games!

I'm with Mike on this one.   It's not that Sonic isn't worth $40.  It's that I already have a Kart game.  It's not worth $40 for me to have a 2nd one.   However I'd gladly pay full price for a Burnout on Wii, because it'd be a difference experience.    I still play Mario Kart.  I'm not so competitive the blue shells have put me off it.   As long as I maintain a decent ranking online, I'm happy.

If anything I'd get Sonic for the 360.

To be honest, it actually is worth 40 bucks.

At the bare minimum, you will play the single player championship cup races. There are 6 cups, 24 tracks. You have to finish in top 3 to keep unlocking them and you earn Sega miles which you can use in store to buy new character racers.

If you are good that will take about 2 hours...to get first on every race on easy.

Afterwards there is over 60 mini missions. They are very fun and have a lot of variety and challenge. You can unlock the next mission by earning the A rank but you will want to get the AAA rank.  Thats another 3 hours easily.

And then multiplayer is left. On the 360 MP is quite fun, if a bit simple. You will easily kill another few hours there.  A complete casual gamer will get 6-7 hours of FUN gameplay out of this game. A hardcore guy going after achievements will get another 3-4 hours.

Not to mention this is a game you can play with freinds in split screen at any time and is the type of game you need to relax from playing intense hardcore FPS games non stop. Playing this game in short bursts works best for me...30 minutes here, 40 mintues there.

So yeah, if you are a Wii user you can go with Mario Kart but this is just as good...but for ps360 users, a game like this is almost a must buy at 40 bucks. We don't get games like this very often.

Two reasons that I am hesitant to pay $40 for this game.

The first is Sega Superstars Tennis.

The second is knowing that all non-Nintendo games fall in price and I don't need it today.

(Conversely, Nintendo games rarely fall in price, which means they make LOTS of money if they sell forever).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I understand your first concern. This is much much better than sega superstar tennis.

The second concern is valid. If you have nothing to play now, I suggest pick it up. If you have things on your plate, price will surely drop to 29.99 within a month or two.

All I am saying is that this shouldn't be looked at as a second rate game not worth full retail price...let alone 40 bucks.

Truth be told, I don't think this game is anything to write home about. Yeah, there are 24 tracks, but there are only 8 themes, so the tracks feel old quickly. Also, the lack of a blue shell makes the game a whole lot less forgiving and 1st place can dominate and not be taken out, making it not as fun for the other 7 players. Plus, the items overall are either weak or dumb.

It's an average game at best. Hard to call it a Mario Kart equivalent.

lol

So skill actually wins? wow, thats rough.

NA sales are abysmal. Didn't expect anything great but I'm shocked at how poorly it's debuted. Less than 50k between Wii/360/PS3. I thought HD console owners might welcome a kart racer of their own - apparently not.

Don't worry Mike. It'll be in the $19.99 and under bins by next month.

Just to add to what Mike has already stated. The developer has stated that the HD Consoles will have downloadable content while the Wii version will not. What that content is is anyone's guess. But since Wii owners will not have this then why should they buy a game that's taliored toward the HD consoles.

I just bought Endless Ocean with Wii Speak but I am getting this Sega racing because mainly it has Ryo from Shenmue.
Just low on cash right now.
Also has nice reviews and be cool to have a Sega character Kart game.

Sumo is a good developer so don't be hesitant buying it if you can afford it :D

i was thinking about maybe renting it to give it a try, but I have a feeling I will like mario kart more

guess we'll see in the next few weeks
