What makes a AMAZING character in a game for you?

Badassness? A Gun? Having muscles? A good voice actor? A sword 10 times the size of the character?

Also who is your favorite character in a game?!

Ofcourse there's more many more reasons!

Things I feel a AMAZING character needs:

1. Personality and/or role in plot....the character must have a striking personality, an aura of power & coolness (I had to invent a new word for this quality)!The voice acting can help a lot in this category (Solid snake) or also not help (yuna's voice actor in FFX..shudders)

Their role should be substantial, I don't like characters who are only in 1 or two scenes, apart from the lovable toads that tell us the princess is another castle!

2. Character Design....VERY important imo, they say "don't judge a book by its cover" but lets accept it most of us do, the character should have a unique design that captures my imagination!

3. Weapon and/or accessory.....this also makes characters stand out, a funky weapon or an accessory, if we see a buster sword we instantly visualize cloud (or zack) in our minds, if we see a bandana we see solid snake, if we see a mushroom, mario!

4. Theme music for the character......yes this doesn't have much to do with the character, but once in a while a characters theme music is so amazing that it makes the character seem even better! Powerful music pieces like aeriths theme come to mind!

My favorite character:

No surprise that its SOLID SNAKE --

He fulfills all the categories & imo shines in all of them!

The same basic things that make for a great character in any medium:

Growth, both physical and mental (although physical isn't always necessary). They should gain the physical strength to overcome their enemies (which makes for good action), and mental strength to keep their persistence and will alive. That's the core of any good character. They should also have to overcome a conflict through their story, and come out stronger for it.

My example for that, at least of those I can think of at the moment, is:

I'm assuming thats vivi!

I need to replay FFIX, seriously, I hardly remember the game now & how the characters were!

Yes it is. And you do need to play the game over again. Although when I tried to, I got addicted to card collecting and stayed in the same place dueling over and over (and then I just stopped playing). So yeah, don't do that.

Your assumption is correct!

For it's also solid snake... his personality and design would be enough to make him the best, screw the theme and weapons!

Design and personality are what makes a good character to follow.

And I think I will go for Madison Paige as my favorite game character right now. She's a very good character (though I might be a little biased towards Heavy Rain at the moment ).

Things a great character needs: 1. A hat (preferably red). 2. A mustache. 3. Should be of Italian decent. 4. Should be a plumber.

@montana

imo all FF minigames suck & I hate all of them...including triple triad, blitzball & that stupid chocobo race you had to win in FF7.......{goes into hiding with shields}

so don't worry about that I never get into minigames in FF games, the story usually makes me push forward as its always very gripping!

Just hope it comes to PSN soon, I've lost 90% of my PS1 games!

@Xen

but solid snake has an amazing theme too!

I see that as his main theme, dunno why, but I do!

Being three dimensional and interesting, emotion provoking.

My favorite is probably Solid Snake (and I really like Vivi, too :P )

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
