Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone else love the "Nintendo" cycle?

It goes something like this.

Part 1 (180 degrees)

A new game is announced.  Nintendo takes beloved series in new direction.  Internet fans lament over new direction.  Fans praise old titles(Notably the most recent one) for holding true to series' tradition.

Part 2 (180 degrees)

A new game is announced.  Nintendo takes beloved series back to roots.  Internet fans lament over the new game being a 'rehash.'  Fans praise last title for being different.

I personally find it hilarious. So much hypocrisy and unnecessary whining.  xD

Pixel Art can be fun.

I honestly don't get what you're trying to say

Absolutely, and it's a shame. Many people are narrow minded up here also -_- Let the game a chance, stop whining and wait until to feel the experience. Many complain about Metroid recent changes in gameplay, I find it really exciting and refreshing!

Same here with NSMBW. Great return to roots. "GALAXY IS BETTER" Galaxy 2 new gameplay "LOOKS MORE OF THE SAME!!" "NO INNOVATION CONCEPT" wow... that's a shame. Well, if it is a sequel, a doubt it will be radically different. They tried with Super Mario Bros 2, it didn't work.

Personnaly, it's just an excellent candy! Why I would refuse to play even more superb levels in the sequel? If it is like Galaxy, then it's perfect for me. Just perfect.

It's not the same fans who complain both ways, it is the fact that there are people on both extremes... which isn't that unrealistic. Nintendo is trying to please both, I think, and what I really like is how this year is very much for the hardcore gamers.

He's trying to call out the "people" who hate everything. Of course he's referring to the internet, in which millions of people share opinions, so there will always be someone who doesn't like something (sometimes for good reason).

What Smoked hostage is doing is taking the entirety of negative opinions expressed by anyone for anything, and lumping them all together. If person A doesn't like a new direction of a game, and person B doesn't like that a game plays the same, despite being two different people with two different opinions, they are now those hypocritical people who whine about everything.

Generally, if you intend to rant on or stand up to the views you feel are expressed on the internet, it helps best if you can call out a specific group of people or a specific incident.

If he could call out some people that complained about how Punchout!! did nothing new but are now complaining that Other M is too different, well then he'd have something.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

People like to complain especially when they are anonymous and they feel like they have a listening public. I'll admit that I am known for my share of complaining about several practices that I feel are hurting the gaming industry. However I usually stay consistent with my complaints and they mainly leak out of me when I am having a bad day ;)

As far as Nintendo, I personally think they have a good grasp on making video games. So I generally trust them when they make big changes since its usually always fun. I also don't mind some retro style games as well so I guess I like how they change it up between the two.

Haha it is so true but I think it could be said of a lot of things.  The most hypocritical thing in the gaming industry, is people want to see something different but at the same time they want something familiar and similar.  EA stated something like this awhile ago when talking about Dead Space sales and why new IPs are so hard to sell.  That is why I repsect Nintendo so much for doing a little bit of both by doing fan services along with taking things in new directions whether in a series or the industry as a whole.

All I want is a Donkey Kong game. Old or new formula I don't care. Just do it Nintendo.

I know people who had fanboy rage when Wind Waker was revealed, and yet once TP came out the very same people praised WW and raged on TP.
