Forums - Sony Discussion - GOW3 Ultimate Edition pre-orders giving trouble to retailers?!

I guess I don't understand your point. Is GOW3 the only game to ultimately reach a lower price used? My only problem is when 1080p@60fps is touted for a long time and not delivered. So games that don't do that I don't mind buying when they are newer.

I've seen people buy games based on reviews, developers hell even covers

First time i see someone buy games based on resolution & frame rate

What are you talking about? The only reason anyone ever buys a game is for the Res and FPS'. No one ever buys a game for content anymore. I think you have been living under a rock or something.

I guess the point is lost on you all. If I was a big resolution nut I would not have purchased a Wii. The point is that promises were made and not lived up to. So, the only way I can indicate my displeasure is to simply not buy the game for the price they're offering it. Free market system and all.

Having a Hi-Def game come out at only 720p IS DISAPPOINTING and it IS a good argument for not wanting to buy it.

You wouldn't buy a $20 BluRay movie that was at 720p.

You wouldn't pay full price $12 for a movie that was only in Stereo sound.

We pay big bucks for 1080p 5.1 Dolby surround entertainement systems so we excpect our $600 gaming systems to be able to play our $60 game titles at full capability.

Here is the kicker, The game is playing at it's full capability. There would be no reason somoen would develope a game and then change the resolution at the last minute to 720p just for kicks. It was reduced because they had packed so much into the game and increased the graphics by so much that it could not longer run stable at 1080p.

They wanted to deliver on thier promise of a great looking game with outstanding graphics, and to do so, they did what they had to do. Would you rather have it not look as nice but still run at 1080p, or even worse play at 15-30fps at 1080p making all heavy actions scenes craw. I would much rather take the small sacrifice in playing the game at 720p so that it runs smooth from start to finish and look much more amazing then was possible with 1080p.

You are right, though, I would not buy a Blu-Ray movie that was only 720p, mainly because the standard forces all to be 1080p. I have no problem with buying a movie in stereo if that is how the movie was orignally produced. Just as I don't mind watching old films in 4:3 format if they were originally shot in 4:3.

Thank you, DrDread, for understanding. You are indeed a glimmering hope for humanity in my eyes. Raistline, I understand what you are saying as well. The point, however, is that Sony promised suckers like me that 1080p is "next generation" and "next generation starts when we say so" so I went out and bought a (Sony) 1080p tv only to find that I have little to no content on it. From the beginning we were promised GOW3 at 1080p@60. Sure it could run at 1080p@60 and look like crap, and then there'd be other legitimate points of concern. We were promised both great looking games and full capability, and we are not getting it. While I've forgiven 3rd companies for lack of 1080p content and even 1st-2nd party titles that were not telling us one thing and delivering another, there is simply no excuse to build a system up that much and fail to deliver.

That being said, PS3 is still my platform of choice because (as I've said in another post) I don't do PC gaming. (No fault of any one company, it just isn't for me.) I also like the 360, however I lean towards PS3 because I find the controller more comfortable. So unless a multi-plat release is leagues better on the 360 I'll get it on the ps3 instead.

I apologize to all for not getting my point across properly. I think GOW3 will be an awesome game. I just can't bring myself to buy it with such disappointment at this time. When it's in the bargain bin I'll pick it up.

So even though the graphics look like the best this generation has to offer BAR NONE... you're gonna get it in the bargain bin because it's not native 1080p? Just for that?

This is great news because I believe I have a solution to your dilemma. Get the game, take a sharpe marker, and do a little black out work. Additionally, you can put some white out over the sharpee mark and write '1080p'.

There you go, now it's in 1080p and you won't be able to tell the difference. Problem solved

Broken promises or no, you can count the number of games running natively at 1080p with your fingers and it is a ridiculous criteria to base a purchase off of.

OT: This game has a very dedicated fanbase so I'm not surprised the Ultimate Edition has sold out.
