Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN Metroid: Other M Hands-on Impressions!

I read that the author was Matt C and then I didn't bother to read...

Even if the game sucks i'll buy it, so I don't really care what he thinks.

I like the sounds of the controls, and gameplay, though if there isn't any exploration I will be pissed. I do NOT like how they are setting up the story presentation. Sounds like too much cut-scenes to me, and that is a not how Metroid should be presented. There better be scans available, or at least some inside lore to explore.

The controls sound like a painful collision of developer narcissism, SNES nostalgia and the desire for 3D whether it improves a game or not. "Cinematic" and "narrative" are the worst possible things that could happen to a Metroid game, closely followed by the inclusion of Federation AI-controlled helpers. Get the Halo out of my Metroid.

The actual gameplay/level design will have to be good to persuade me to buy it. Metroid Prime is my favourite game of all time but a poor control scheme made me hate Prime 3, and I don't want to waste another £40 on hope alone.

I don't care about Matt's opinions, but the facts of what he presents sounds pretty hot.

The opening sounds relatively cutscene-heavy, but I don't expect that to hold up through the whole game. I mean, God willing.

And it's a Nintendo game. You will be able to skip the cutscenes, ladies.

I'm not sure some people have got this right - I read in several places that you can move anywhere on the screen, so effectively it's a third person 3d game, it's just the camera that is always 2d (when not in the first person mode).

You can walk in all directions.

It's nice to know I'll be playing this pretty soon. Great.

This isn't the first time Samus has spoken--she spoke during one of her taunts in Brawl

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I don't know what to think about the control scheme at all before I see it in action. I'm hoping for the best from two worlds though (Super Metroid + Prime).

I hope the exploration of earlier games will be there and that it won't be to heavy on cinematics. Prime was really good because you could just blast through the game without caring much for the story, or you could slow down, scan and learn more if you wanted to.

Anyway, I can't wait to see some videos!

What I want is:

- Desolate world
- Dead bodies all over the place
- Eerie music
- Good back-story that's hidden in scans(like the whole ing vs luminoth war story in MP2, it was DEEP)
- Amazing boss battles
- Power-ups
- Open world with lots of things of exploration
- Dead bodies

Without these things you just don't have a metroid
