this makes me wonder whether there would ever be an update that can unlock the PS2 Backward compatibility.

I guess this means games with better FR and more things on screen..
Looks like I know why GOW 3 looks that good

Fixed
I imagine if you buy a game that has a the higher demand for RAM and you haven't done the FW upgrade (though I imagine the FW upgrade is an automatic upgrade) then the game will prompt you to do the FW upgrade.
Improving the efficiency of your OS is always a good thing, I just hope it hasn't come with any functional compromises.

You sure can, I think all Sony PSN games support it as well as a few first party retail games.
If its not in your game write the dev and tell them to stop being lazy ass holes and put it in, its a simple module sony gives for free.
It will never be a part of the firmware because of a patent owned by MS.
They haven't just flipped a switch and poof theres another 70MB. If you'd followed the technological story since release they've been slowly slimming down the operating system. I suspect its less optimisation for the most part (though still important) but more an acknowledgement that they needed to allocate with-held ram to their game designs in order for games to reach parity with the Xbox 360 which already had a lot more ram to start with.
huh...remember when the PSP had an upgrade in its CPU from 333Mhz to 444Mhz...do you know that the cell is using 6 SPUs when the Cell has 8 SPUs....(1 of them is for the XMB, the other one is "locked")
