Forums - Sony Discussion - Teletext : Heavy Rain Review (Abysmal)

lol, guys... don't worry, you'll live with one low rating. There's bound to be a crowd that does not like or want to play this game. Don't start throwing up about it.

He's joking about the Lost game, right? Right? Bad. Love Lost. Seen every episode multiple times. All of them.

That game was a major disappointment.

No, I'm not joking in any way at all.

I would rather watch six hours of Dane Cook than play through that game again.

-edit-

And yes, I'm am a giant Lost fan.  I've watched every season multiple times and Lost is about the only show that I will watch Live.  When I'm bored, I actually read Lostpedia.  Hell, I even read it when I'm not bored.

As an even bigger LOST fan, I have to say that the game is very enjoyable.

Totally. The game was great.

You can argue all you want you're the bigger fan, I don't really care that much, but Lost: Via Domus was awful.

The caves, the random deaths, the "puzzles", the smoke monsters, the buying system, most of the character voices, just all absolutely terrible.  The only redeeming part gameplay wise were the chase sections.  I'm pretty sure those parts were only so good because the shock of suddenly playing something that resembled a game was just so jarring that anything, even Bomberman Zero, would seem like a welcome change.

Besides the story, how well they made the island look, and the two chase sections, I don't think there were any other really good parts to that game.

And can you honestly tell me the dynamite parts were fun?

You may have liked the game, but that doesn't change the fact it's still one of the shittiest games available on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Well I guess it's everybody's opinion.

But I'm pretty sure it's not worth 3.5/10 for as bad as it might be. Oh well.

Having read many of the comments herein, I cannot help but feel I have read them before.
Essentially, the argument is the same one that many Wii gamers have made about the low scores given games on that console --- "the reviewer just does not understand that they are supposed to provide an unbiased report ... they just don't understand."

The only difference is that out-of-line low score for this game is coming on a semi-obscure site and is one review among many. Meanwhile, the 1-2 outlier low scores for Wii games would be part of a smaller review set (and thus have more effect on the metascore) and often were from more "main line" review sites.

What it all boils down to though is that the vast majority of those who are "reviewing" games have their own set of expectations. And anything that varies from this formula usually received a lower score.

To digress, when I was younger (in my 20s), I worked at a newspaper. Both the movie reviewer at the newspaper where I worked and the one at the competing newspaper were 40sih, slovenly, balding, portly, effeminate -- and would rather be directing something in community theater. I bring this up to show how little I had in common with them (except maybe for the waistline but mine was smaller then) -- and how I might like something different than them. I am not aspersions here but merely stating fact. I would use their movie reviews to see what the movie was about and whether or not there were any technical issues that might make it difficult for me to enjoy the show.

I suggest that game reviews be used in much the same manner. In other words, if you are interested in Heavy Rain, find out what it is about and whether the game works, then make your purchase decision. Do not look at the end rank only.

(And circumstances change. I am now in my 40s, have a messy office, less hair and more waist. I also have a son. So while some of you might enjoy Heavy Rain, playing a game about a missing child is not something that I want to do.)

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Ah, another "praise/kill the review site depending on score" thread. This time it's pitchfork time.

Of all the many hypes we already saw this gen on all consoles, the one which emerged around Heavy Rain during the last few weeks feels like the strangest and most faked one to me. Quick time hype, so to speak.

emporers new clothes...?

I'm getting Heavy Rain and will play it through... but I think there is a strange elite attitude surrounding the game

It is almost as though it is impossible to criticise the game because Heavy Rain is somehow arty and high brow and that means it shouldnt be criticised because the developers have been brave.

Have played around 6 hours since yesterday, for any mature and rational person, this game is really good. Maybe thats why you get the elite feeling, a teenager or immature person will obviously not like this game. Its slow, its intelligent, its make you think, its definitly not like our usual blockbuster game.

Would you say that it's mature to say things like the bolded? I've played slow and intelligent games that made me think in the past and I've liked some and disliked some. The fact that the game has those traits doesn't mean that

(a) A person who dislikes it is immature, irrational or both

(b) The game is automatically good

You realize you just quoted his entire post except for "The fact you dont like the game doesnt mean your immature tho, because you may not like the gameplay, story or anything else."

Let's not attack and take people to task for things they didn't say, whether or not we agree with how they feel about Heavy Rain (which seems to be one of the things most people can agree on in this thread... at least when it comes to low reviews.)

BigPond GameArena -45

and who the fuck is BigPond GameArena ?? no review from them for bioshock 2, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 or Bayonetta...but they do for HR ?? W T F ??? and these guys are so important their scores reflect on the metascore too! lol LMAO@metacritic. So lame, so shit.

I wouldnt' trust a review from a site like that... just look at that site!! it looks like those webpages that appear when you type wrong an address and a website appear selling stuff...

They just need to put a Viagra ad next to the Heavy Rain Review!!

Easily yours

at least double that score !

At least it acts as a counter balance to the 100% scores handed regularly out by certain sites. Also, Gamecentral and Digitiser have been going for donkey's years and were always renowned for giving out more 'realistic' scores in comparison to the legions of 'Official' mags.
