Forums - Sony Discussion - Prioritising game purchases

binary solo said:

So I have a small laundry list of games I want to buy / play, and I'm wondering how to put them in order of priority. There has to be a bit of a hype vs price factor taken into consideration. And there is an ever diminishing amount of leisure time I can devote to gaming, so I have to maximise quality as well.

Here's the list in what I think is a reasonable order of priority. For most titles I'm waiting for a price drop to below NZ$100, and in some cases a drop to below NZ$75. I'm certainly not a day 1 buyer.

What do you think is the best order of priority?

1. Uncharted 2 Oops just caved in and got this today, a bit higher price than I had planned, but I couldn't hold out any longer.

2. R&C: Quest for Booty (relatively cheap and would prefer to play before ACiT)

3. R&C: A Crack in Time

4. Demon’s Souls (Will have to import, can get it off Play Asia for substantially less than the price of new release games here)

5. Dragon Age: Origins (Does console version have online co-op?)

7. God of War III (main reason it's not further up the list is because it will be the last one to drop in price)

8. Heavy Rain

9. Trine

10. Braid

12. MGS4 (I'm guessing a lot of you will yell at me for having this at #12 and below Dante's Inferno to boot, hmmm perhaps I should bump it up a few places considering it's platinum and pretty affordable. I do want to play all the above games more, but perhaps this game will help soak up some time while I wait on the others to fall into buying range)

Edit: Forgot to ask. What's your personal priority list for games? I'm interested to see if there are other games I need to give serious consideration to putting them in.

Also if I get around to upgrading my PC, I'll put Mass Effect 2 into the priority list, but is it best played with a console type controller (I don't have one for PC at the moment) or does KB+M work OK with it?

The ones you should buy are there, I got rid of the others.

I would say get the Ratchet and Clank games now, and MGS4, then the PSN ones a little later, then HR, then GoW3, then Dragon Age and finally Demon's Souls (you'll have to import it)

I would play dragon age over demons souls, and MGS4 over both :)

Got MAG and Heavy Rain this year so far.

GOW 3 waiting for price drop/good deal, will be playing MAG and HR so not much point buying it.

Spilt Second - Waiting for below £30

Prison Break - Waiting for £20

Dragon Age doesn't have online co-op, and the PC version is superior to console versions by a LOT.

If it was up to me, I'd repriorise your list quiete a bit in this order:

1. MGS4 (It's one of the best games ever and it's super cheap today, in Europe that is)
2. God of War III (it's league above Dante's Inferno and Darksiders, one of the biggest blockbusters this year, so unless you are mad crazy about hack'n'slash, I'd go with the king)
3. Demon's Souls
4. Dragon Age Origins PC version (You want to play this before ME2, it's hard to go back to it after playing ME2)
5. Mass Effect 2 PC version (Keyboard and mouse is SUPERIOR to controler, no doubt about that, also PC version is superior to the Xbox one)

This would be my list, based on the experience of playing MGS4, DA:O, ME2 and DS.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Don't get Blue Toad Murder Files, it is pretty bad and terrible value for money.

Sad to hear Blue Toad is a let down. I was so hopeful for that game. I'll still look at getting it though because it's a game I can play with my non-gaming friends and family.

I really, really, re-he-he-eally didn't like Oblivion in FP mode, and I agree its TP mode wasn't all that good either. I like my D&D RPGs in 3rd person / god's eye, so I'm piocking I'll prefer my modern/futuristic RPGs in the same. Looks like Fallout 3 might just be a pass.

I guess a few of those that have been suggested to be dumped from the list will be renters when I have a spare weekend with no intrusions (i.e. when the Mrs. is out of town).

It's a bit of a pipe dream to think I'll own all of those games. But I WILL own Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain and GOW III eventually.

FFXIII (already pre-ordered)
Heavy Rain
Dragon Age
3D Dot game Heroes (not release it yet)
RatchetN Clank: ACIT

My list..

1. Heavy Rain
2. BF:BC2
3. Demon's Souls
4. 3D Dot Game Heroes (maybe)
5. Modnation Racers
6. Gran Turismo 5

Can't really think of many games that I might get that are coming out soon... I probably won't even buy most of those on that list.

Metal Gears Solid 4 is the greatest game ever made! You should probably bump that up your list. I also highly recommend getting Demon's Souls, one of my favorite games this gen, extremely addicting.

My list is:
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War 3
Heavy Rain
Resonance of Fate
3D Dot Game Heroes

For future games I will be purchasing, that will be coming out soon.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

From those 3, I would say go with Demon's Souls over the other two, then the other two are a tossup, depends on if you like replaying games to get different ending or not (I'm not much of a fan on that front)

Reason being, you will get a lot more playtime out of Demon's Souls (If you don't throw it out your window) - If you can stick witht hat game for a few hours you will eventually learn how to play, and even though you WILL die and die ALOT - everyone who has played this game will agree that it wasn't a cheap death, you did something wrong, and you will learn from it so you will not die at that point again.

Then after you beat it you get to play NG+ which is ******* brutal.. I thought the first playthrough I died alot, NG+ even though you basically start the game over with all stats and gear from first playthrough STILL kicks your @$$ cuz the difficulty goes up a lot.

GOW3 I hear is 15-20 hours, and Heavy Rain is 8-10 (correct me if I am wrong) but Heavy Rain may get more play than GOW3 just for the fact you have 5 characters, so might make repeated playthroughs more enjoyable?
