Forums - Sony Discussion - Does MGS4 PS3 overheat?

GamerTechGuy said:
The only console so far that hasn't overheated for me is my ps3 which i wasn't expecting seeing how much power this think has. MGS4 is a great game and i spent hours playing it with no problems not even freezes. Great game. I been keeping my PS3 on the top of my entertainment stand and it never gets hot but the air coming out of it can get warm.

Xbox RROD on gears of war...
Wii Back fan stopped working they were going to charge me $90 to replace the fan and went to ebay bought a Wii fan for $5 and shipped it for another $5... now its working perfectly again no random turning off from overheating.

The OP was referring to the MGS4 PS3 bundle that came out with MGS4 branding on the PS3 shell and not just if the PS3 overheats while playing MGS4

I do not think there is any difference at all, other then aesthetics, from the MGS4 PS3 and the regular FAT PS3. I have not had a single overheating issue and I make sure my PS3 is upright and has fully open airflow. I have a 60gig orginal with full BC. You should not have to worry about the PS3 overheating at all. I have run the folding@home for over 2 weeks without interruption and have had no issue. Folding@home generally makes the PS3 quite a bit hotter then playing games.

get a small fan and point it towards it.

And every electrical appliances blows hot air out of the vents.

*Overheats due to awesomeness? Yes, yes it does.

Depends on where your PS3 is placed as well as how much room you have around it. For example, heat rises, so if you have your PC say in a higher part of a TV cabinet it will be a few degrees warmer up there than at the bottom, as well, make sure you have a few inches around your PS3, I cant remember what the book says? 2-3 inches probably? myself I have my PS3 literally about 2 inches off the floor (and it is concrete floor so it's very cool) and have all sides exposed. I have never had any issues. My 360 on the other hand... but that was my stupidity, had it sitting on top of my subwoofer, which I discovered gives off a bit of heat.

Surprised I never had any scratched discs in my 360, with the subwoofer pounding, woulda thought a game woulda scratched by now :P
