All have their place. The Conduit wasn't well polished in many areas and wasn't exactly "realistic" in terms of graphics. COD reflex would be a better example of a game trying to be realistic.

I agree somewhat. On Wii style means more than realism. I think HD consoles actually suffer a bit because a lot of developers just go for realism and many games lack a style of their own. Nor is one appreciated often. A lot of people didn't care for the look of PoP but I thought it was great.
We have seen style trump realism already on Wii. Shaun White crushed Shake It on Wii despite they came out about the same time and offer similar experiences. Shaun White used style, Shake It tried to be realistic and looked worse for it. Stylish Grand Slam outsold realistic Virtua Tennis. On the flipside, going with a more cartoony look seemed to hurt Madden sales.
Besides, Nintendo doesn't even go for realism very often and it's their system so why should anyone else? Don't get me wrong, I love the graphics in Silent Hill:SM, quite impressive (for Wii) but that didn't sell either and developers have to sell so they should do with what sells.

How about SH hasn't been that hot in sales for a while, more than the graphics.

I don't care what you make your Wii games look like Ubisoft. Just please try and make a good one! (Red Steel 2 doesn't count because Retro held their hand the whole way.)
Note that the speaker is talking about graphics -- which he may have a point. Stylized efforts can certainly make games look better. What is true is that if you release a game with realistic graphics, someone is going to compare it to the output of the PS3/Xbox 360 -- and the Wii just is not the same. Of course, in most cases, people are not maximizing the Wii and often are not putting effort into art direction, which can help with the realistic approach. But the stylized approach requires the good art direction, which makes the game better.
Also note that this person is not about content per se. "Realistic" was not a code word for "mature" or "fighting" or anything like that. It was a code name for a graphical approach. And that is all.

I'd be more inclined to listen to your post if you used proper grammar. Pot meet kettle.
I agree with Ubisoft. I think competing on fronts that favor the 360/PS3 is a lost cause to begin with and especially so when a game's target audience is likely to include multiconsole owners.
Going to sound obvious, but they should stylize when it works. I mean stylizing had clear benefits in some cases (Ghostbusters), but in others companies have tried to stylize for the sake of having something cartoony, and it just blew up in their faces (Madden 10)
You gotta know what your target market wants.

I guess this thread and my thread should be merged since both are about Red Steel.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

That and Madden 10 was apparently too simplified compared to even the past Wii Madden games.
Also, as pointed out, Call of Duty is selling well with realistic graphics, even though the critics still put them down.
