Yes I am very much addicted to this site have been for years. Although I didn't post much at first.

It's 8:50am. My kid is off to school. I have the day off from work. I'm currently laying in bed with my girlfriend and her ass is pressed against my ribs and we're both in our underwear. Instead of spooning, I'm on a laptop posting on VGChartz. I swear to God.

So, what do you think?

I think you're definitely worse than me, then. If I were in that position with another guy, my reaction would be "Computer? What computer?" And then my arm would go around him, and... well, I'm not going to go into details; that's off-topic for this thread.

Depends. What brand of laptop?

The forums have fallen off and aren't as interesting as they used to be. I still check regularly, but I don't like the direction this site is taking.

Want to explain in more detail?...

Forums

  • Fewer interesting topics and threads/posts that are well thought out. Lots of redundant threads.
  • Too many people stick to PR talking points and don't want to critically look at issues.
  • Blatant trolls and fanboys that do nothing but stir the pot to rile people up.
  • Duplicate threads. Any large news story is bound to have 3-5+ threads, some which take forever to get locked.
these all happen everywhere. Also a lot of this is perception rather than reality. It is like old people talking about the good old days. There is nothing stopping you or anyone else from creating these "interesting" topics. I guess someone needs to go make a thread about their STD or something to make off topic interesting again.
  • Too many Rol impersonators.
    well, you can blame Rol
  • People don't want to actually discuss games and gameplay. Not just gameplay, but genre conventions, trends, and honest discussion about game problems. It's annoying when people declare some highly rated game as perfection and want it to end there.
In a gaming world with extreme fanboyism of course you are going to see that happen. We could become neogaf and not let anyone create an account (I just got rejected myself) or you could just create a thread and talk about gameplay and if people derail it, just report them.

Site

  • Becoming more and more of a generic, dime a dozen gaming site. I know VGC isn't just a numbers site anymore, but I would say the numbers provided here have taken the back burner to other areas such as reviews and news. There's nothing inherently wrong with reviews and news, but EVERY gaming site does those, but no virtually no other site provide sales numbers. I wish VGC would bring the numbers side to the forefront again, making a particular effort to improve site perception and tracking accuracy.
This is what ioi and company work on. What Naz, talonman, myself, or any of the DB or Review/news staff works on doesn't effect how hard ioi is working on making the numbers better. In reality there is no way for you to know this is happening other than ioi randomly posting "our data is better today" which really has no weight behind it. I don't know if you remember ioi's post from earlier, but he's already stated that he is expanding data collection and it is becoming expensive.
  • Very little interesting original content. Maybe I'm the only one tired of top 10 lists.
This is being worked on too.

Based on this list you might think I hate this site. That's really not the case. It's just not what it once was, though that may be partially a matter of my tastes changing.

My interest level in this site is waning too.  Largely it's because debate over who will win this generation is over and people have happily or grudgling (mostly the latter) accepted it'll be Wii and now there's more focus on who will be second but really there's not a whole lot of difference between 360 and PS3.   Except for 1st party and the odd exclusive their library of games is identical and the overall experience similar (unlike the Wii) and whichever one claims 2nd, it'll end up being a very tight race so it won't really matter much except for some small bragging rights.

A lot of the more colourful members are gone.

All the major games that everyone was waiting for (and you poor PS3 fans have been waiting and waiting and waiting) are finally out or about to be out very shortly (GoWIII, FF XIII) except the ever elusive GT5.  Otherwise we are now into sequelitis country and that's not nearly as exciting as seeing if X game will make a difference in the market.   They won't anymore if they ever did.

And it's become a huge disappointment that the industry at large has been so fruitless in taking advantage of the huge new market Nintendo has captured.  Instead they are all reverting back to what they know even though it'll be the death of many.

What I do like is the active (but getting progressively quieter) Nintendo community here.  The reviews are really good. The high level of talk in the forums.   Most site forums are just a mess of immature trolls and it's rare to see intelligent discussion happen so it's nice to have it here.   Sales numbers but it's becoming pretty routine at this point of the generation.   Maybe Arc/Natal will shake things up.  Maybe.

Since I joined last year I have become bored of the gaming forums(Still post in them), and stick around basically just for the mafia games and the great community. Plus I want to hit that lucky number 10,000th post ^^

Everyday to see what's new.
