It was never that good a series to begin with, and it has only gotten worse with time. Of course, what they needed to do was to re-build the protagonist for each game, rather than endlessly dragging Ash all over the world, yet never seeing him really advance

Actually Ash has vastly improved in the anime as where character development has gone. With each League he's been to, he's gotten farther each time. Plus he has two fully evolved starters on his team, Infernape and Torterra (he's getting that one quite soon and just got Infernape): http://www.serebii.net/anime/characters/ash.shtml He also has a Gible that knows the fabled Draco Meteor...but you know what Gible fully evolves into, right? Plus the anime has gotten more in touch with the video games, as they talk a lot more about each Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses, plus the anime also uses computerized graphics for a lot of their special effects. So, whomever was saying that the anime is poorly produced, you might want to watch more recent episodes before you eat crow And the Pokemon TV show is the most watched show on Cartoon Network.
Especially the fight with Ash against Paul...I learned some new strategies to use on my games from that episode
