I was going to post this earlier but it seems that the thread no longer exists on the Yellow Dog Linux forums.

If this were indeed true though, I would be upset with Sony disabling something they promised me when they sold me my 60GB PS3.

Piracy prevention...Geohot ruined everybody's life by trying to make pirate lives better...

I understand they whole Geohot thing, which honestly nothing has arisen from yet, but why does that make it alright for Sony to take away something that has been accesible to me for 3+ years?

because they don't want to risk the ps3 falling into what the PSP has fallen into.

You might not but who's to say no one else would?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Piracy isn't the fault of the PSPs low software sales though.

If piracy was so bad then Wii and 360 wouldn't sell software so well. A 360, just like a PSP can be modded to play pirated games in a matter of minutes.

Also going by an article I read a couple months back there were more pirated 360 games than PSP games.

I blame it on console price, game price and lack of originality in PSP titles.

I already decided that I am not going back on PSN. I'm not going to hack my Ps3 or anything, but that doesn't give them a right to take away features I paid for!

This man gets it!

Although I will be a bit different and say:

"Show me the homebrew!"

I take that back. If there is something that allows me to play PS2 games then it will get hacked. ^^

You know...to play games that release after the Firmware Update, you have to update it...yes, you too dsister...

I believe that is if you wish to play online.

Don't log into PSN and you can play no problem.

@dister44

Good thing I have a 60GB.

I this hack is the real deal I have no issues waiting for a custom firmware.

Call me cheap, call me a bastard, call me a POS but I would much rather copy my retail PS1 games to me PC and convert them to play on my PS3 rather than need to pay for them to be in digital form.

This is why I love my PSP, I was playing FFVII and FFVIII long before their PSN arrivals plus I already can play Vagrant Story, FFIX, Chrono Cross, etc...

You seem to think its as easy topirate a wii or 360 as it is a PSP, and also believe people buy a Wii or 360 for piracy specifically, when in reality, the PSP is BY FAR the most pirated system this generation. I mean if the GOD OF WAR downloads weren't enough proof (5 MILLION ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS), then idk what is..

GT has been illegally downloaded almost 2 million times since before it released.. the highest pirated wii game hit what 300k downloads?

No dude, you have to update the FW to play new games...the FW is in the disc for those who don't have internet..

Let me inform you a bit.

My Wii was modded with nothing more than Twilight Princess hacked game save and a USB flashdrive. Now I have a 500GB HDD on my Wii with homebrew, custom channels such as my FFVI and Earthbound as well as DVD access and DiVX. I did this in under 10 minutes.

I haven't done anything to my 360 but it is as simple and opening up my 360, hooking the DVD up my PC and installing custom firmware.

PSP was as simple as using the old school hacks to install a custom firmware since I started back in the 1.50 days and even today it is easy to grab a pandora battery and a MS Pro Duo with all required files.

All take around the same amount of time to get done and require no real additional purchases besides USB flash drives, memory cards, etc...

DS for example still sells software and it is as easy as ordering a flashcart.

So why do these other consoles with out the ass piracy rates sell software but not the PSP?

http://torrentfreak.com/the-most-pirated-games-of-2009-091227/

Punch Out has been pirated almost as much as it has sold. NSMBWii has reached 1.5M by the end of 2009, after only 3 weeks or so on the market, it is easily around 2-3M by now right? That is around 30% of it's sales right?

PSP has more problems than just piracy.

Should we even get into how big the piracy scene was with the PS2?
