"We need to be able to support it in the right way" first, says Left 4 Dead developer
Left 4 Dead and Half Life developer Valve has spoken again on the subject of its PS3 neglect, offering just a little hope to fanboys that it will begin to release more of its games on Sony's console at some point in the future.
Speaking about the potential of any part of the Left 4 Dead franchise (or, indeed, any other future Valve games) making their way on to PS3, and largely in reference to the port provided for Orange Box, Valve writer Chet Faliszek told Edge:
"Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way. But we'll look at it, and I'm sure down the road we'll do it."
His comments echo those of Valve marketing man Doug Lombardi, who told us last year:
"Until we have the ability to get a PS3 team together, until we find the people who want to come to Valve or who are at Valve who want to work on that, I don't really see us moving to that platform. We've kind of learned a lesson in that again, if we were customers of that product on PlayStation, we'd feel like we sort of got the stepchild version of the product while the guys on the PC and the 360 got the sweet version of [The Orange Box]."
Valve's latest PS3 comments come from an Edge preview of upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 DLC The Passing, which was revealed in December and is set for release in late March.
According to our sister site's hands-on, The Passing, "isn't crammed with new content beyond the locations" and "a new infected-type that... will actually carry health or ammo you can use".
But "the streets, the buildings, the graffiti, the sewers, the dark, the swarms, the panic, the vomit: all are still as tangible and terrifying as before." And "the core, successful mechanic remains truly intact. Stick with your friends, heal 'em, help 'em, and they'll repay the favour when you're inevitably on the floor with just a pistol to keep back the hordes."
