Forums - Gaming - Will Assassins creed Be the first true next gen dissapointment?

If you consider Assassins Creed as a first "next-gen" experience, then it must be first "next-gen" dissappointment.
I was thinking AC being more like "new Redsteel", or at least after Redsteel i didn't expect much more from AC. Lots of hype, but finally being fucked up in some of it's key elements. It of course doesn't mean, that gamers wouldn't like the game, and if my comparision to RS holds in sales, Ubisoft will be happy with AC sales.

No, I don't like that comparison.  Red Steel was hyped to be a great game and turned out to be a really bad game.  Assassin's Creed was hyped to be a great game and turned out to be a good, but flawed, game.  AC is fun to play, for a while.  It does have some major issues, but it's still a great experience, and if you ever get the opportunity, I highly recommend you at least spend some time screwing around in the game.

You know, this is why i made the comparision. Most people i know, have said the same thing about Redsteel. And both of the games seems to have the basics right, but just that few of their elements is fucked up.

Hmm you said that about call of duty 4 as well naz.

How many people did you assassinate?

And what score would you give it

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

The 1st was Lair
The 2nd was Heavenly Swords
& Assassin will never be the 3rd.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

We only completed 2 assassinations, because we had a lot more fun just climbing and running around (They freaking nailed the physics).  I don't really feel comfortable scoring a game I have only played for 5 hours.  Me saying it's a game I wouldn't pay full price for doesn't by any means make it bad.  I wouldn't pay full price for Trauma Center either due to it's short length but I really love the game.  My review for the game is: Find some way to play it.  You might love it, you might not, but you at least need to experience it.

Fable is not really a fair comparison. Sure the level of hype around AC was very high but the devs kept much about the game under wraps. I dont remember seeing anything that was promised in the game cut.

Peter Moleneaux on the other hand anouced several features for Fable that were either cut or never implemented. Most of the dissapointment I felt from that title stemed from that fact and made what was in all actuality a great game a dissapointing one. I love most of what the guy has done game wise(especially the Dungen Keeper stuff) but he has a bad habit of letting his mouth overload his ass.

I guess I'm still a bit bitter about that game its the only reason I bought an Xbox as it was not slated to come out on PC originally. Fourtunatly there were a lot of other better titles that I really enjoyed playing on it. I guess I actually owe something to Fable though it brought me back to console gaming which I had given up on after my PS1 N64 days.

Sorry guys I tend to ramble.

Lair says hi.

Assasins Creed may be the second next gen disappointment, but I doubt it will live up to the huge crashing and burning of the first.

Let's not forget Heavenly Sword. People were expecting it to be one of the biggest games of Summer and become the nextgen God of War. Its mediocre reviews and poor sales (compared to the $20 million it cost to make the game) would easily qualify it as the second nextgen disappointment.

Heavenly sword was never hyped to the level of AC and never crashed as hard as Lair.

To be honest I think the only thing HS dissapointed in was length, the rest of the game came out as expected.

well i bought the game new for 39.99 for 360. it really good, and i encourage anyone to buy it alone for the experience. yes the game is repetitive, but what game isn't this days? the graphics are one of the best this gen, the amount of characters interacting is incredible. yes, the combat is lame, yes the assassinations aren't that great, but its a FUN game... i would rate it so far 8.7.. i played it for around 6 hours
