Also the gameplay mechanics seems far more to resemble the Resident Evil series than Uncharted (climbing, hanging from ledge shooting, camera zoom aiming, taking cover, floor rolls, etc).

It's also very dark, potentially to hide some graphics and the game seems to make heavy use of slowdown, potentially this could help with keeping track of things fast enough or not (or it's just an optional bullet time like in Max Payne, I couldn't determine based on the demo).

Uhh, it's dark because it jives with what they're going for here with the enemies being completely dark. Obviously if the entire game took place during the day, it would be rather boring and wouldn't be a "psychological action thriller." It's pretty clear that they're going to put you in some pretty dire situations from the footage I've seen, and I don't think it's fair to insinuate any hiding of graphics when part of the game does in fact take place during the day. So yeah, why exactly shouldn't most of this game take place in the dark, if you are supposed to use light as your weapon to combat the enemies?

On capable hardware they could still implement darkness combined with awesome lighting like done in Killzone 2. I don't think they can handle this amount of light sources/lighting effects and the 6.8 GB on a DVD very limited for providing much high quality textures with enough varierty.

I thus think it may well be a design decision to enhance the looks (hiding the low quality textures) due to technical limitations.

The lighting in Alan Wake is way ahead of the lighting in Killzone 2, as are the shadows. Also the latets screenshots are all from the xbox 360 version. And they confirmed that there is no screen tearing. Just read the statements from Remedy. And where did Remedy say that Alan Wake runs at sub 720p? Thats just false information you are spreading.

There is no way that Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2 stand a chance against such a "graphics beast".

@ Counti

I don't see hundreds of light sources in Alan Wake. Killzone 2 does an amazing job highlighting it's complex character models with high quality assets. For example when shooting someone down standing next to you in the dark.

It's clear Uncharted 2 sports much better HDR.

Nothing wrong with sexy cinematics people! Alan Wake is gonna be awesome!

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Just look at the shadows. They look sooooo much better in Alan Wake. Alan Wake is build from the ground up with the "Light" as weapon. It will set the new standard for lighting in games.

We just got a glimps of the amazing scenery in Alan Wake, there is so much more to see. And its not just about which game has the best HDR. Its about the complete package.

Do you mean in the cinematic videos or gameplay footage? I can't say, I haven't seen enough XBox 360 footage.

In any case hundreds of light sources cast more shadows, so should technically be more complex.
