If you keep reading my posts, you'll note my main issue with him was his insinstance that the Wii would be discontinued so quickly, not so much that it wouldn't pass the PS2 in sales.

Dude, where do you get these numbers? You are very confusing. Are these Vgchartz or official numbers from Sony? The latest numbers are 2.8m for PS3+PS2, its a safe bet to assume PS3 did around 1.8m.

Read carefully.  Those figures are for Q4 2011 from both Sony and Nintendo.

Q4 2011
DS - 520k
PS2 - 500-600k

Q1 2012
DS - Numbers are to be released next week
PS2 - Sony combined the PS2 and PS3 figures together.  Total is 2.8 million.

I am asking how could the PS2 go from 500-600k in Q4 2011 to 1 million in Q1 2012?   How would it just double its shipments for no reason?

Like Ethomaz pointed out, they're wrong. Plus. Why do you compare different quarters? You should compare Q4 with Q4 YOY, not Q1.

I agree, PS2's success was once in a long time kind of success. It might be beaten by something, but not anytime soon anyway, and that might is not too likely either

The data I thought were right are the ones ethomaz posted and explained but Viper1 seems to disagree.

Now I don't know so much about financial reports so can someone tell me who's actually right?!

Well theoretically if you are completely fair its not since like 90% of phats died because of DISK READ ERROR:

I would like to know how many individual people bought a PS2 and not how many people have 2 or 3 because the phat ones died.

I mean I alone know 20 people whose phat dies myself included. I got a slim with a phone contract in 2004 or so and it still works perfectly The slim is awesome the phat is crap.

Got both ps2 and ps3 phats. Never died. 11 year old ps2 and 4-5 year old ps3. Idk anyone who has had a ps3 or ps2 die, but I live in america. All I hear is 360s dieing (though I barely know anyone who doesn't have a 360.)
