I don't count the DS in sales because it cheats, it releases a new (renamed) edition every year or every other year now it seems...What do we have now Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL?

It cheats?

In my opinion, a console that changes the actual features to add more to the newest revisions, doesn't really count as the same console anymore...that's a new generation of that console, just like the PSP and PSP Go should not be lopped into the same category...But hey, that's only my personal opinion, Oh, and "learn something"

I didnt "learn" anything from your post.....with your line of logic the only systems with legit sales are the 360 ,xbox ,wii , N64 and everything before it because they never had revisions.....thats stupid.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

N64 had that Pikachu model.  Disqualified!

I would have to respectfully disagree

yes its possible that the wii won't sell as much as the PS2 (although I think it will) but to only give it 90 - 100, that's underestimating by a lot

That was a limited edition wasnt it?

I'm not talking different colors and special bundles, lol, I'm talking downright major revisions of the hardware...It's not the same system, it may have the same features in retrospect, but it is not the same thing...Are we counting PCs as game consoles? If so, we can count All of those revisions of any gaming PC released....PC Wins

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

Seriously, you really think the Wii is going to have trouble beating 90-100 million?

I don't believe that anyone will beat the PS2 but I don't think that anyone really wants to. The Wii will sell over 100 million and the DS will beat it but it's a handheld divice so it doesn't compete with the PS2. I think that nintendo will stop selling the Wii before it is reduced to less than $100 which will probably be in 3 to 4 years more years because Nintendo is about making a lot of money on their products and when they are making less than $10 on the Wii, there will be no point in continuing. Plus Nintendo will learn from Sony that it is not a good thing to have two products on the market competing against themselves (ei. PS3 and PS2)

DS and Wii will outsell the PS2

Guys even I am a PS Fan, but Wii shall outsell PS2 eventually, sorry, you only have to look at the sales of PS2'S first years compare to Wii's, to see that, something big would have to change for Wii for it not to outsell the PS2.
It's like I said PS3 will eventually reach 100m, the reason is because the Wii has caught a different audience, whilst the the hardcore audience that normally has owned PS over the past two generations is currently split.

The "hardcore 1337" audience are former PC gaming fans. The "casual" audience are console gaming fans, most of which (like myself) owned a PSX and PS2.

No I disagree, whilst the PS has had a mixture of casual and hardcore gamers, the wii is mainly made up of casual gamers. Currently hardcore gamers are split between on x360/ps3, some even chose Wii, hoping to get more core games like RE4.

You can define casual by what kind of games they play and how long they play for, when i play on WiiSports, you do not need to spend very long on there to be satisfied, I only ever play that game for 1-2 hours max which is casual, whereas I if I pop in a game like Demon Souls in the ps3 I could quite happily sit ther playing up to 8 hours which is hardcore.

I know lots of people who was not even interested in gaming that now own a Wii, my mum is such an example, and an example of what she likes is Just Dance and Animal Crossing and Wii Fit, She only plays on it for 1 hour maximum at any time, this is an example of how wii has caught a whole new audience.

If you define "hardcore" by time played, then big Wii hits like Mario Kart, Smash Brawl or Monster Hunter indicate a pretty substantial hardcore audience on the platform.  Besides, even "casual" games tend to rack up significant total hours over the long term.  What's more hardcore, playing Wii Sports 1-2 hours max consistently for a year or playing Demon's Souls up to 8 hours at a time for 3 weeks?

Really, Wii's the mixture this gen, but I'd agree that the rise of "casual" buzz has made the markets murkier for the (usually) risk averse industry.  Which is why so many publishers balk and retreat the comparably narrow, predictable focus of the HD twins.

I said by the type of game you play and how long you spend playing it, plus Demon Souls is a 200+ hours game, and does take skill, I would hate to try and complete it in three weeks lol, to each their own opinion, what would you base it on??

I like both kind of casual and core games, just look at my collection, I would not exactly call Eyepet "Hardcore" lol.

All games take skill, even casual ones.  Play against a dedicated fan in any PopCap game and you'll find out just how "hardcore" casual games can get.

Monster Hunter Tri's a 500+ hour game, arguably even more skill based (and less luck based), and it's sold triple what Demon's Souls did in just one market.  Again, I'm not seeing where Wii's the mainly casual machine?  Is Super Mario Bros casual?  Is Smash Bros?  Mario Kart?  Zelda?

I would classify games like Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Music, Wii Fit etc all as casual, but again, each to their own. Anyway Wii still has core users which explains why games like Conduit have decent sales.

Edit: Monster hunter definatley is a hardcore game (in my books), no doubt about it, none the less you have to remember Demon Souls is a new IP, and still needs to be released in one territory, I beleive it will hit 1 million if it get's released here in Europe.

it's the future of handheld
