If you define "hardcore" by time played, then big Wii hits like Mario Kart, Smash Brawl or Monster Hunter indicate a pretty substantial hardcore audience on the platform. Besides, even "casual" games tend to rack up significant total hours over the long term. What's more hardcore, playing Wii Sports 1-2 hours max consistently for a year or playing Demon's Souls up to 8 hours at a time for 3 weeks? Really, Wii's the mixture this gen, but I'd agree that the rise of "casual" buzz has made the markets murkier for the (usually) risk averse industry. Which is why so many publishers balk and retreat the comparably narrow, predictable focus of the HD twins. |
I said by the type of game you play and how long you spend playing it, plus Demon Souls is a 200+ hours game, and does take skill, I would hate to try and complete it in three weeks lol, to each their own opinion, what would you base it on??
I like both kind of casual and core games, just look at my collection, I would not exactly call Eyepet "Hardcore" lol.
it's the future of handheld
PS VITA = LIFE

I think the Wii could beat the PS2,but, it depends on Nintendo and how long they want it around before the next console.

All games take skill, even casual ones. Play against a dedicated fan in any PopCap game and you'll find out just how "hardcore" casual games can get.
Monster Hunter Tri's a 500+ hour game, arguably even more skill based (and less luck based), and it's sold triple what Demon's Souls did in just one market. Again, I'm not seeing where Wii's the mainly casual machine? Is Super Mario Bros casual? Is Smash Bros? Mario Kart? Zelda?

How do you know that? What is that assumption based on? How many home consoles (not called Playstation) have been left ont he market when the next generation launched? |
Every other market leader for their time which includes the NES , SNES and atari......learn something.
N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!
Even if just Nintendo supports Wii after Wii 2/HD/Plus/Zii/whatever hits, going by their previous "market leading" platform track records bodes well. Their final NES game came over 4 years after SNES launch. Their final SNES game over 4 years after N64 launch. Their final GB game over 2 years after GBA launch. Their final GBA game over 3 years after DS launch.
I don't count the DS in sales because it cheats, it releases a new (renamed) edition every year or every other year now it seems...What do we have now Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL?
Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

I don't count PS2, it cheated with the slim. The original PlayStation cheated with PSone. Wii is already the best selling singular console of all time.

In my opinion, a console that changes the actual features to add more to the newest revisions, doesn't really count as the same console anymore...that's a new generation of that console, just like the PSP and PSP Go should not be lopped into the same category...But hey, that's only my personal opinion, Oh, and "learn something"
