Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does a game become more popular if it's exclusive or multiplat?

Simple question, is a game more popular (known to the gamers) when it's releasing as a multiplat game or as an exclusive game. If it's multiplat it's open to a wider range of users but there's so many multiplat games that only few really stand out. If a games is exclusive it's mostly known to the users of the specific console it's releasing to, but it can be known more to these people because it's exclusive but it's limited because it's on one console.

Multiplat or Exclusive?

Around the Network

On the internet, exclusive (if on an HD console). Partially because MS and Sony like to tout their exclusives, and partially because fanboys like to use them for arguments.

For everything else, I don't know.

exclusive most of the time..

I would gather it depend's on the game and what type of gamer it's marketed toward.

example:

if the gamer is mostly into sport's jrpg's may not be his thing so no matter what console it's on it may not matter.

every gamer has and dislike certain area's of game's I gather it's pretty much based on each and every person. on a whole I think its an even split due to being a large number of gamer's this generation already, hell even new one's ..my mom does like her some Wii bowling.

before that i could barly get her to play any game's that I had for console's. on the ps2 and game cube so there is in some way's a growth in gaming toward how people view electronic gaming in general.

multiplat, a game normally sells more if its multiplat so its more popular

Exclusive games get more attention and being exclusive helps build hype for a game

Time for hype

I would say Multiplatform, maybe it's just me but i noticed games are talked about more when people set out to prove which consoles version is better

the popularity and awesomeness of a game is directly proportionate to its exclusivity.

in the real world... nobody cares.

case in point GTAIV

I would not say that's completly true, because my nephew like's GTA:IV he's 16 but his Mother does not like him playing Game's like that though she herself like's forza, and Wii bowling, little big planet. she would like him to play those type's of game rather that GTA:IV so i would say there are people who do care. She know's how popular GTA is but she does not like it.

Bad example since GTA has become a lot less popular since it stopped being timed-exclusive for the Ps2. Good example: Assassins Creed/2

Depends on the title.

I think Valkyria Chronicles benefited from being Exclusive and Tekken 6 suffered because of it. On the other hand if Guitar Hero stayed exclusive it would have suffered.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
