There is no announced date yet, I don't think it has even made it to the Japanese store, which would indicate it was coming soon

No word yet but you can get the PS1 discs for under $10 on eBay I believe.

Great game. It happens to be my girlfriend's favorite.

I already own the PS1 discs, but our PS3 is from Taiwan, so it won't play those Region 1 discs. That and taking the time to set up the PS2 is a bother.

I guess I really just want to be able to buy digital copies of all of the PS1 FFs so I can give my little brother his PS1 discs back.

That is real upsetting. They really should release FFIX on PSN. To be honest they should do so really soon before FFXIII releases.
