Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bad Company 2 a letdown

Let me give you a little background--I love online shooters.  Love them.  I didn't say I was any good at them, but I buy quite a few and spend several of my free hours playing them.  I am a big fan of the Battlefield series both on the PC and the consoles.  I am not such a big fan of CoD, but have really enjoyed Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2.  I was pretty big into Quake back in the day, a little CounterStrike here and there, blah blah blah.  AND just by pure luck, I have run across a little bit of a windfall lately where I have plenty of cash to buy pretty much whatever game I want, which is coming in handy during this faux holiday release season we are having right now as gamers.  All that being said, I have been flip flopping on whether or not to buy Bad Company 2.

I had been playing Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 ever since it came out and was having lots of fun with it--lots of friends, family, and co-workers were playing too, so there was always someone to team up with.  I think MW1 and 2 were both terrific games......arcadey, but terrific.  Then MAG came out, and my online shooters have gone to that full time ever since the day it came out.  Many of my co-workers are playing that game too, so it's pretty cool to have a clan going and tell war stories during the day.  All in all, in terms of the general experience you get from a shooter, I find MAG to be on par with some of the older BF games, especially BF2.  Probably even better.  I feel no need for any more MW2, much to the dismay of some of my friends.

Now I'm faced with the release of BF:BC2 in March.  I downloaded the demo recently expecting to be blown away as I usually am by the BF series.  I am not.  Again, I have more than enough cash to buy this game, so it's not about finances.  It's more about me thinking the game just isn't doing anything differently from the games I already have.  If anything, it's a cross between MW2 and MAG with worse graphics.  In fact, in terms of graphics, I think it goes something like MW2>MAG>BC2.

Early previews of BC2 seem to think the game is excellent.  Am I missing something here?  Do you guys think I'm crazy?  Since MAG is starting to become my favorite online shooter of all time (much to my surprise, since I totally scoffed at it when it was announced at E3 a couple of years ago), my biggest fear is that BC2 comes out and lots of people abandon MAG.  I hope that's not the case, because I don't think EA is going to get my money this time.  I think I'm sticking with Raven.  What do you guys think?

P.S.---Please don't turn this into a 360 vs. PS3 thread.  I have both and think they're both awesome.  I am not insinuating any console bias by saying that I love MAG--it would have been terrific on either console.

I was honestly never one for online shooters. Never. I liked playing over LAN (Lots of time has gone into BF1942 there), but online has just been amazingly boring to me most of the time. Uncharted 2 and MW2 held my attention reasonable enough, but still not really something that stuck with me.

But the BFBC2 demo is kicking ass! It is so incredibly awesome to me! I have no idea if someone finally got the mixture just right for me, but I love playing it. I must have spent more time in that demo than I have in MW2 in total. Which is a bit scary

I thought the graphics on MAG kinda sucked but I'm only judging it based on the beta which was kinda ok.
In my opinion, BC2 is much superior than MW2. I think I've spent 10+ hours on the demo alone. :D
I dont know about you Domicinator but I think BC2 is a must but for any FPS fan. Its that damn good.

Can you be more specific, what is not good in BC2? Since u have loved all former Battlefield games, what is worse this time?

Yes, BC2 will steal many players from MAG, it's bound to happen, but don't worry, there will still be plenty of people playing MAG.

Btw, I think BC2 is amazing.

I love BF far more than any other shooter and I also downloaded the demo.

I have very little experience with console shooters as I generally stick to PC. So, my dual analog skills for shooters suck. However, since I now own a PS3 I was giving it a try.

Controls aside, the game is ok. Still feels like a BF game which is good and I like the destruction. Need to try it on a PC though so I can really compare, however, I'll keep playing the demo so I can get accustomed to the dual analog sticks.

I wasn't impressed by the demo at all, but somehow i keep going back to it, i guess i like the change of pace from my MW2 all nighters, but if i do pick this game up, it'll be in the form of a rental, and only for the single player experience. If it has a lot of multiplayer acheivements, i won't be playing it on my main Live account, because i hate online achievements (i can never get them all, with the exception of Halo, i'll play that on the main, without all the online achievements).

That..or just get it on my PS3, even though i don't like to play FPS on the analog, it'll give me the gaming experience, and some well needed trophies.

if you want a differant fps get avp its so fun.(if you havent seen any of the movies then maybe dont get it) the demo had the worst map, worst gametype and didnt look as good or feel as good as the final game. there are i think 7 game modes and a gears 2 type horde mode that is so intense.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

What the.... MW2 better than BFBC2? I know it's just your opinion but c'mon. There's no real teamwork in MW2 and you can't even ride vehicles around, only on 2 kill streaks :|. Also you can destroy any environment in BFBC2.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

MW2 is the worst FPS for me, its too easy and all you have to do to win is pick a sniper rifle, its like Godly. works better than a rocket launcher.
besides its too noob friendly, VERY noob friendly and the perks are just ridiculous...
