So we are now having a fight about potential game of the year candiates before they are released (with the exception of Mass Effect 2) and before half of the line-ups have been announced... Yeah, this is definitely going somewhere interesting

That isn't my opinion on what "should" be GOTY, just which games I think are most likely to actually be contenders going by previous games.

I aint gonna apologise fore predicting, get over it.

Mario Galaxy has a metacritic average of 97 and I ca see Galaxy 2 being 96 or 97 as well. Twilight Princess was a 95 overall on the Wii and 96 on the GC, Zelda Wii could easily match that if you go by how consistent these title have been over the last decade +.

Still amazing how people think ME2 is a shoe in for GoTY overall. It may end up being just a drop in a big pond of 94-95+ titles.

So explain why Heavy Rain (with its 92% average) has no chance, yet TC Splinter Cell, which isn't out for 2 months is more likely to get game of the year. I am not saying you should appologise, I just think it is pointless, especially as you are only talking about console exclusive games there

MS and Sony both have a very strong line up.
But many people forget games like The Last Guardian, The Agent,FF14 for Sony.
All potential AAA titles

At the start of the year I would have said Heavy Rain stands a good chance, but it's 89 meta means it's v unlikely.

Splinter is capable of reaching the mid 90's.

People are gonna be pissed I'm basing this on meta scores, but high scores are very telling as to what will contend for GOTY.

Doesn't mean anything. Individual sites do not base their GoTY choice on Metacritic's aggregated scores. They also do not necessarily base their GoTY award based on the one reviewer from that sites score, they base it on a staff wide vote. Demon's Souls and Gamespot was an example of this last year at Gamespot, a site where it was rated a 90 and U2 was rated a 95. That 95 was one person's opinion while the 90 was someone elses, but as a collective group at Gamespot the editors found Demon's Souls to be the better game and gave it the overall award.

This is why I am saying that it is a little too premature to start declaring who is going win what.
