and the only reason this is a close race is because 3rd parties refuse to abandon the HD systems like they did the GC. Some amazing sales for Wii though.

And why should they abandon the Consoles that are giving them more money like Xbox ?

its not a question of selling more Consoles , its a question of selling more games for 3rd PArties and in that department Wii is doing horrible.

Really? because there over 90m 3rd party sales on Wii last year, and only ~100m 3rd party sales on X360. The market is much much much larger on Wii, but the 3rd parties refuse to put good games on Wii. Monster Hunter Tri is a perfect example of what they can achieve. Better sales on the Wii than the PS2 from the same series.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Tell that to games like Modern Warfare , Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six.

This doesn't make sense 0_o.

They abandoned the GC because of poor software sales. That isn't happening on 360 and PS3.

For a long time it was on PS3. It's only with sustained third party support that the PS3 got to a position where it has decent software sales now, but even then the PS3 software total tracks well below the 360 software total, in spite of tracking ahead in hardware.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Not all of them.  I still can't figure out how GC didn't get games like Soulcalibur 3, Burnout 3 or Tales of the Abyss?

I presume you're being ironic, because moneyhatting is such an obvious answer and we know it was well practiced in that gen.

Well, for Soulcalibur that was actually said/gloated about by Sony.  Then karma kicked in and SC3 sold worse than the least selling version of SC2 (Xbox). lolz.

Tales, I dunno, probably. You'd think after Symphonia almost hit a million, they'd want to follow that up.  Burnout definitely wasn't though, I think Criterion just hates Nintendo.  Which is strange, since Burnout 1-2 sold better on GameCube than Xbox...

There's probably more examples (Capcom fighters come to mind, CVS2 sold significantly more on GC than Xbox), but the truth is 3rd parties generally did comparably on GC and Xbox, yet in 2003/2004 nearly all of them decided to drop one platform and continue on with the other...

Go wii!!! yeah!!!

good for nintendo. well deserved in my opinion.

Don't argue with nordlead about sales. That's just plain idiotic.

Besides, all of the games mentioned that sell well on other consoles are made of fail.
