When Would You Like The HD Twins To Release Their Next Gen Consoles

ASAP! Not having the late... 3 3.26%

2011-2012 30 32.61%

2013-2014 40 43.48%

2015+ (The longer the better) 19 20.65%

Total:92

I went with 2013/14. I want to get my money's worth out of them but I don't want to be playing them forever. We need upgrades every so often.

My next major PC upgrade (Ivy Bridge Platform, DDR4, PCI-e 3.0 GPU and SSD) is due in 2012 so it would also be nice to release the consoles the same year so it would be the ultimate geek year.

And it would like to get a taste of next-gen before the world ends (I kid, I kid) ;)

No foreign sky protected me,
No stranger's wing shielded my face.
I stand as witness to the common lot,
survivor of that time, that place.

not untill 2014 at the earliest

Around 2012 or 2013. In 2 or 3 years time.

Seeing how I just bought a PS3 three months ago, I won't want a PS4/XBOX 720 until around 2014 so I don't mind when they want to bring them out.

Obviously, the Wii will be launching a new console before MS/Sony, so I am not really only referring to the HD Twins.  Please share your thoughts.

How is this obvious? Have you seen the sales of the Wii? Wii successor will probabaly be out last again.

There are rumors everywhere right now that the successor to the Wii is launching in 2011.  I have seen other users post references on this site to many of them.  Hell, even Gizmodo had an article circulating the rumor.  While you are correct and I do not have definitive proof, it seems that there are too many of these rumors to be floating around for it to not be likely. Perhaps I should have chosen my wording differently.

And please do not take me saying the Wii is inferior to any of the other consoles and NEEDS to launch first for sales.  The Wii is a powerhouse in sales.  But at the same time innovation is what is selling on the Wii.  This post was more in reference to "what's under the hood".  The Wii has little more to offer from a processing stand point.  MS/Sony still have more that can be done on their consoles.  They can be pushed farther.  Too many developers are too lazy to create a great, innovative experience on the Wii.  I wish they would as I love my Wii.  But as much as I hate to admit it, the only games I am playing on it anymore are games made by Nintendo as they are the only ones doing the system justice.

Only rumors I have seen are for the DS successor. There is an article on that on the home page.

Did you guys forget the rule thats pretty much been followed since the beginning of time? Every 5-6 years another gen starts. NOTHING has changed.

wii/ps3 came out in 06. Thier upgrades will be 2011 or 2012.

360 will prob be the same

Some things that have changed:

  • the time required to develop a game
  • the money required to develop a game
  • the costs incured in devoloping/launching consoles
  • all major competitors are seeing success with their consoles (3rd place in this gen might end up being the 5th best selling console of all time)
  • through the first 5 years of the gen no console has experienced a huge YOY drop

3rd and 2nd place this gen will also probably end up being the 2nd and 3rd greatest financial losses of all time.  Yay, success!
