I know its just off casual observations, but I believe that SONY is going to end the PS2 within the next year..

GAMESTOP has been ordering PS2s like crazy, and they are getting scarce supply, the console ends up selling out rather rapidly, and they don't end up getting PS2s for weeks. The same applies to BEST BUY, I notice these things through the online retail sites, and some local store observations. The question to me is, Why? There is clearly still demand for PS2, but why is sony shipping so little of them? They are doing the same with the PS3, its really strange in my opinion, and I think as a business they should keep selling a product that people are buying.

Well, if they are doing this with BOTH the PS3 and PS2, I don't think it means they are killing the PS2, they are up to something.

I'm guessing that Sony America is screwing up ordering the consoles.. Sony Europe is much better in estimate demand and supply.. no shortages here of PS2s and 3s..

and yet Sony increased their projected PS2 sales by the end of the year. What's going on Sony?

It amazes me how active the PS2 base is. Madden NFL 10's PS2 version actually charted Americas' top 50 in 2009. Now at 0.81m in Americas. It does seem like a lot of sports game and pro wrestling game players are still sticking with the PS2.

The SKU is deleted at my Wal-Mart as well.

since the PS3 is not backwards compatible i think sony might do a
buy a PS3 get PS2 for free

But why though? Did they actually expect such low demand for the PS3 and PS2?
