Man... I thought console gaming was better than PC gaming because it didn't have expensive hardware upgrade requirements....

.. You mean a TV?

I am fairly sure TVs are hardware. Did they become software without me noticing?

So you are complaining about buying TV's costing money?

TV's are quite a different situation from PC gaming parts.

No it's really not. At this day and age you need a PC more than a TV. You need a CPU, you need RAM, and while you don't need a VG it is required for many things other than video games, including watching movies. So no, not different at all. It's something required for gaming, and for the price of an "upgrade" I can build a brand spanking new PC, more powerful than any console.

Don't PC's need monitors?

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

CRT monitors are still considered better than the flast screens, believe it or not. I believe those have existed for a long long time. Also You can get a 22" 16:10 monitor for $120 if you know where to look. You don't NEED to upgrade a monitor unless it breaks.

I game on my xbox using an HD monitor/tv. The arguement fails.

Both a console and a pc need a display, simple as that. And it's not like you have to upgrade those every 4 or 5 years. I think you proved that with your mention of CRT monitors?

Like I said, it's a different situation regarding PC parts.

I think it's about time that developers stopped making concessions to gamers with SDTVs. It's time.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

can also get monitor/tv hybrids with all the jacks you'd need for like 250 bucks at 24 inchs. I also count having a HDTV as a part cost since I don't even pay for a monthly subcription to watch TV, it's for both my PC and consoles, HDTV is a valid cost to console cost imo depending on the situation.

No PC game will ever force you to upgrade you display. None. You upgrade it whenever you want as long as it works. Games do however force an upgrade to other hardware. Consoles now apparently force upgrades to an HDTV, not just when your SDTV is broken. It's a very valid argument.

"Consoles now apparently force upgrades to an HDTV, not just when your SDTV is broken"

Well if your buying an HD console, you should expect to eventually get a HDTV. It's like buying a Blu-Ray player, but using it on a SDTV.

yeah, and also it only affects 3 games. Maybe more, but not many.. And some people don't even have the problems.

It's like saying PC's force you to spend over a thousand dollars to get full performance out of crysis. Does that affect the rest of the library? lol, no. It's not like it prevents you from playing the game. It just makes it worse.

Exactly my point. It's just like PC gaming.

Microsoft launched a HD-console back in 2005 so it's about time the games for it caught up. Mass Effect 2 looks fanastic in HD, that is the way it's supposed to be played. Gamers who have a SDTV and get a HD-console know that they aren't getting the maximum out and as time passes the differences will only get bigger. You can hardly blame developers for going with the times. As for that article, among the average households the percentage of SDTVs is low as it also counts older households who never owned a console. Among games the percentage is obviously higher.

So true, If people are buying an HD console, then the obvious choice to upgrade to an HDTV, or at least don't complain that a game's content is designed for HD.
