Oh and PS3 was adjusted down...Uncharted 2 and Forza 3 were also adjusted down.
I can post something odd I realized about vgchartz that would get me banned so I'm not gonna do it...

Maybe someone could clear this up for me. I seem to remember something about Sony changing the way they report numbers so that it was no longer what was already shipped that was reported but sales on the books.

For example Wal-Mart makes an order for 50,000 PS3, even if those PS3s aren't shipped out yet the sale is still recorded and added to the numbers they give in their financial reports. Is that correct?

Sony's wanted to give a 3 month leave for all its PS3 related employees for their awesome job .. So Sony made almost 2.5 million extra consoles in last quarter, which they sold to the retailers also so the shipping dept also gets a leave. So all the manufacturing for PS3 is closed for this quarter and now all the employees concerned with manufacturing, shipping are on leaves. They are having a good, relaxing, fun vacations of 3 months with their friends and families. They deserve it, dont they. :P dont be mean to them. :)

You will see Sony will show 0 PS3 for the current quarter in their fiscal yr report.. cuz they are not going to manufacture or sell to retailers any more PS3 this quarter. :P and dont worry they still have 33.5 - 31.65 for remaining 1 and half month which is more than enough i think.. :P

ps. ok on a serious note everybody is tired of these threads.. there r already quite a few of these thread, so everybody does not need to make a new thread on every thought.. One thread on a topic means that every one's every thought related to that topic can be posted as a reply there.. You cant convince ioi to increase or decrease sales if u dont have any solid numbers for any region which he has under or overtracked..

shipped usually means how many they shipped to stores it doesn't mean how many it sold to the consumers

That is correct.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

hmm -- i find it hard to believe that SONY would be foolish enough to report replacement shipments as "sales". I think its more likely that SONY is simply selling far more PS3's in area's that are hard to track for VGC and possibly even selling more consoles in Europe/North America then NPD/ GfK expects by selling consoles to non-traditional game retailers and non-NPD/ GfK tracked retailers. (not to mention NPD / Gfk cannot accurately track online console sales).

Anyway ioi in future when just before you undertake a massive adjustments project like the one that is going on now, could you please make a post on the front page to warn users that a series of large adjustments are coming as it would help minimize the communities frenzied actions.

First off, this thread is not meant as a rant. I always used Vgchartz for my sales numbers, and I always trusted them, and found the numbers to be the most credible (After the Company's themselves ofcourse ). However, after analyzing some of the numbers, I found some looking rather strange.

Let me start by giving you some facts:

- Sony stated that at the end of 2009 they shipped a total of 33.5 million Ps3's (Just look at their recent financial report)

- Since the beginning of 2010, the Ps3 has sold 1.076.910 units according to Vgchartz.

- This means that there are atleast 34.576.910 units shipped

VGC sold numbers have nothing to do with what Sony says is shipped. What it means is that the 31.65M was 30.58 at the beginning of the year, nothing more.

According to Vgchartz, the Ps3 has sold 31,65 million units. This means that there are 2.926.910 units out there, just lying on the shelves. This seems unlikely, due to the normal 'buffer' of consoles is about 1.5 million units (I know this out of experience). Also, there have been recent reports of shortages in the US (Please don't bring me the Baby Seals ^^). Out of personal experience, I can say that about 500 stores in the EU have Ps3 shortages to (The reason that I visit alot of shops, is because it's a part of my Job ^^). It just seems highly unlikely to me, that the remaining stores have that much Ps3's. There could be some reasons for this. It could be because of a Price cut or a other marketing action. But that seems unlikely, since the Ps3 is still being sold against a loss.

Again, this isn't meant as a rant or insult against Vgchartz. I love the site, and the community. I just wished everyone could be just a little bit more reasonable.

Can anyone give a good explanation about this?

Discuss!

Sony announced 33.5 million Shipped for the end of 2009. It's likely that they kept on shipping Ps3's till now. That's why I just added up the sales numbers to the shipped ones.

You don't know that for sure.

Not only does he not know it for sure... it's a silly thing to assume.

It isn't silly.. Normally it's safe to assume that they're shipping on par with the demand...

Btw, Kaz.. Ur doing nothing less then calling GodOfWar_3ever a fanboy.. And that while he didn't say anything about a console in his post.. He just seems to want the numbers to be accurate..

The OP renders the rest of the thread pointless...

To assume that every time a PS3 is sold at retail another one is on its way in shipping is frankly.... idiotic.

And yet that is exactly what you are saying by stating that another 1m will have been shipped since Jan 1st.

Normally, that isn't such a crazy idea.. They just ship them in large party's, so not for every console sold. It is possible that Sony shipped like 500-750k units, but that depens on the units lying there on the shelves. Do you really think a company doesn't ship when they're running low on units in stores? It would actually be pretty idiotic to NOT ship on par with demand.

EDIT: Sorry for the triple post.

You just indirectly called the OP an idiot !

Smooth going ?
