Since there seems to be a pretty big RPG fan base here, I thought I would see what characters you all typically like.

My favorite has always been the archer. It might have started with Warcraft II, when I fell in love with the Elven archers. Since then, some other archers that I have loved: Preistess of the Moon & Dark Ranger (Warcraft III), Wil (Fire Emblem) and Diego (Vandal Hearts). Plus in create your own character types, I usually go for them. Even in games where they are not very good, such as Fire Emblem, I still tend to overuse them.

So how about the rest of you? In case you are confused by the categories, I'll give you a few examples of them all:

Warrior/Barbarian: Like Fire Emblem's Ross, Garcia, etc.

Knight/Paladin: Like Warcraft's Paladins/Knights, FF4's Cecil

Archer/Sniper: Like Wacraft's archers, Fire Emblem's Wil, Rebecca,etc.

Thief: Like FF7's Yuffie

White Mage: Like FF4's Rosa

Summoner/Black Mage: Like FF9's Vivi, FF10's Yuna

Hm, I tried to use a mix of games, but ended up only using Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and Warcraft. Haha, oh well, that should give you a good idea of the classes anyway, being that all of those characters are pretty well known. Plus most of these classes are pretty obvious.

The choices you've got there aren't perfect imo. I like to play as a warrior mage a lot of the time so I suppose Paladin would be the closest. I find the most of the classes can be split into one of these 3:

Warrior
Rogue
Mage

Everything then becomes a mix/mish-mash of those 3. It'd take ages to list the whole lot but some additions could be:

Assassin
Battle-Mage
Druid
Ranger
Monk

Etc.

I tend to like the heavy tank type (knight / paladin). I would tend to split classes slightly different.

Tank (heavily armored)
Melee Dps (lightly armored)
Ranged physical dps (lightly armored)
Casting dps (very lightly armored)
Casting heals (heavily armored to medium armor)

Well, yeah I guess there are different classifications. I was thinking:

Melee with little else (Warrior/Barbarian)
Melee with magic/ high defense (Paladin/Knight)
Ranged Attack (Archer/Sniper)
Focus on neither might nor magic (Thief)
Defensive Magic (White Mage)
Offensive Magic (Black Mage/Summoner)

Paladins, because theyre Close Combat fighters, but in the same breath not as brainless as Warriors. :3
