not really, unless u consider the 360 and ps3 dead too.

The 360 and PS3 actually sell software. Even when the PSP's hardware sales were higher. You almost never see a PSP title make the NPD Top 10 for the month.

oh it thought this was about hardware.

They need

PSP 3000

$139.99

bundled with 1GB memory card

and PSP GO

$199.99

edit:

You guys forget that a portion of PSP software that isn't tracked by anyone BUT SONY are coming from PSN..

A $140 PSP-3000 is nice but sadly you can't hack the motherboard for those yet. Even if you obtain the games legally, the lack of homebrew is a bit of a drag. I can use NES, SNES and Genesis emus on my DS but they are not that good. NES/SNES/Genesis emus are no where near as good on DS as they are on PC. PSP emus on the other hand are quite comparable in quality to the ones on PC when it comes to NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PS1 emulation, etc.

It is, I was saying that the PSP's hardware sales were the only thing making it a success and now it doesn't even have those to lean on. Outside of Japan the PSP sold  hardware and no software. Now it's not selling hardware or software.

And herein lies the problem. That's why the 2000s continue to sell- piracy, even if it's not of PSP games. This is where Sony's problem is- it's been notoriously easy to hack the system. Yes, there is piracy on the DS, but it's not what's talked about. Talk to the system owners, even of the Wii and 360, and who talks most about piracy on their system? PSP owners. The reputation the PSP has now for this is not something Sony's going to be able to shake, and explains most of their other later PSP revisions- trying to plug those holes. I of course wish them luck, since my 3000 is still kicking, but...

yes, a $140 PSP 3000 would bring in software sales, since its the only system that isn't completely priated yet with the exception of the PSP GO

Yeah they need a $149.99 psp go.

PS3 and 360 is selling much better though, so I don´t think it´s a good comparison. Both consoles outsold PSP by more than the double during December NPD and 360 sold three times as much as PSP in January NPD. To add to this is the fact that PS3 and 360 is gaining some momentum and are actually up year over year  in sales in US I believe (correct me if I´m wrong) while PSP has been on a negative spiral for quite some time now.

Of course we´re not even talking software here, which is absolutely a disaster for PSP compared to all other consoles.

It´s about the situation as a whole for PSP. Softwaresales are as bad as they have ever been for the console but the new bad situation for PSP is that hardwaresales are down. PSP has always sold bad softwarewise but it used to sell quite solid hardwarewise which now isn´t the case anymore. This could in the worst case lead to retail shops stop selling the console which would really be the start of the demise for PSP. Or at least resulting in PSP getting smaller space in retailshops.

I doubt its piracy. I just think people never bought the system with the intention of actually playing games on it. I've seen people use it for porn and for music and sometimes portable movies (illegal kind of movies) and thats it. Now that there are better devices out there like the iPhone/Touch and the Apple competitors the sales are drying up. All those new games that Sony announced won't do anything for the system because most people never bought it to play games. I consider the PSP as more of an iTouch competitor than a DS competitor.

Tease.
