its not DEMAND that is causing the shortages, its the same reason why the PS3 is underselling..

I mean the Wii is over 200k down year over year...

why are they under shipping

they're undershipping Wii's? PS3 underselling?

Source?

PS3's and Wii's shortage problems are no where close to being similar. Wii almost sold more in one month than either PS3 or 360 sold the entire year in that region.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Ok then explain to me how they could sell 4-5MILLION Wiis in the U.S in December, and can't sell 500K Wii's in the U.S?

They are also DOWN 250K from last year, despite being $199..

they are undershipping, so are SONY, they sold over a million PS3's last month, and they couldnt do 300k?

Both consoles are completely sold out world wide, so yes they are similar. Both manufactures aren't shipping enough consoles to meet demand.

PS3's are not completely sold out WW. Nintendo sellin damn near 4m in one month and then selling half a million the next is an obvious demand problem.

I'm sorry PS3 is just not in as much demand as the Wii is.

Can you post some source?

'cause personal bedroom guesses are made by everyone. Here's mine:

- Nintendo sold extremely well last Christmas, way above the competition, and now they don't have enough consoles and are marketing and exagerating that to say "we are still so famous we can't meet demand"

- As for Sony, there's no undershipping at all. It didn't sell more because there was no demand.

And just like you, I can't post sources to this because this is my personal guesses :)

They may have airshipped January's stock for Christmas, resulting in the shortages we have now. That's usually why there are shortages after the holidays (for any console), it'll balance out soon enough.

For people questioning the supply issue, don't bother. The Wii is still sold out online. See Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc. Even the Walmart bundles are out (I know those were availible earlier, but...).

"Well, their new console should be coming shortly."

Despite their ~4M December, people are insisting upon this now more than ever. New DS as well, even that sold how much over 20 million last year? Maybe I'm wrong; maybe sales aren't good enough for Nintendo, but they have never done this well before.

And Nintendo is not limiting stock purposely. That does not work as well as people think to spur on demand.
