On topic, I really dont think releasing Gears 3 this year is a good idea, we already have Reach and the new COD somethings got to give and Gears is the lesser of the three, a march 2011 release would be awesome however

Not a fan. Gears is an over-rated franchise. Note the constant downward slide on most-played games list. They need to do some serious rethinking of netcode and multiplayer ideas in order to regain their momentum. Cliff and company really shot themselves in the foot with Gears 2 by under-delivering in almost every way. Lots of people are doing gears-style combat in comparable fashions, and in some cases better. Those mechanics are getting stale fast as everyone and their uncle borrows the 3PS cover and shoot formula.

Sorry but nobody is doing the 3PS combat and cover mechanics better. Gears is like the saying "often imitated but never duplicated." You may not think its the best game but the 3PS mechanics are by far the best out there.

If Gears 3 released in Q3/Q4 this year it would get slaughtered by Halo Reach and CoD7.

I bet it won't be till Q1/Q2 2011.

Gears can hold it's own against a Treyarch/non modern Call of Duty. Not quite against Halo and Modern Call of Duty though.

The only problem I see is if they release later this year they have Halo:Reach to compete with. If they release late next year they have Modern Warfare 3 to compete with. The only suitable place I see for a release date is around February 2011 or now, but we know that's not going to happen.

February 2011 would be a good date for it. No real competition that we know of in that time.

And you're probably right, Gears could beat Treyarch Call of Duty but probably not Halo.

The netcode needs some work (and so does the multiplayer), but frankly, it's not that bad. At least Epic tries. That's more than I can say for Infinity Ward. And I seriously doubt you've played the series in a while, because you couldn't be any more wrong. But if you're so sure in what you say, please name me a third person shooter on the 360 that's comparable to Gears 2 in graphics, gameplay, whatever. I'll wait.

certainly,  both epic and activision have nerfed their multiplayer/PC experience recently, but there are other games in other platforms that certainly trying.

maybe not on the 360, but uncharted 2 multiplayer kinda great, it does everything gears 2 did and do it great, and they are many PC games on the oven trying new things.

This message brought to you by Sony. Seriously dude, you're like a broken friggin' record.

OT: March 2011 would be really sweet for this to come out, then it would be Halo + Natal in the fall and Gears in the spring to keep that momentum going. Could work out very well for MS.

I just hope they don't take forever to release it because I want to see what happens next in the story.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

i played gears of wars on pc ;)

You guys are trying to fight about how great Gears is, but we're saying the same thing. I agree that the first game made some strides and was the source inspiration for lots of games. But the 2nd game was nothing new or special. And one inspirational game and a by-the-numbers sequel does not make a legendary franchise, no matter how good it looks or how much it sells.

The only iterating in Gears 2 was working some kinks out on the engines so they could open the small, closed corridors up a bit and get more characters on screen at times and tweaking the cover mechanic so you didn't get stuck so much.

The biggest issue with Gears was the glitchiness/host advantage/netcode of the first and they didn't fix it. And it's not as if they didn't fix it but revamped the entire franchise or added a ton of features to excuse that fact.

Thus Epic/Gears is fail until they figure it out.

Look at the most criticized sequels of big franchises. Some don't like particular FF games - but they are at least trying whole new systems. Some thought Halo 3 didn't go far enough to change, but they added Forge and theater and 4-player co-op and a million other details.

Gears added....mortars. And dueling chainsaws. And kept its core problems. Adding a weapon and improving the engine is the absolute least one can expect from a big sequel. To me, they did the absolute least they could.

I know people like it. We CAN have different opinions on the series. That is ok. But Gears was the #1 and #2 game for it's whole run pretty much. It can't even hang in the Top 10 any more. It's stale. And unless they do something drastic, it's going to continue being stale. But if they do something drastic, it won't be "Gears" any more.

I wouldn't want to be in Cliff's shoes. I really wouldn't.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Agreed.  Fun.  But so is Zombie Nazis and Firefight and......

It's not a change in mechanic.  I had the same argument with ODST.  It's "What do we do with what we already have to make it seem like we are changing things up when we really aren't."  But I am more inclined to give Bungie a pass on that one because they weren't intending it to be that next evolution yet.  If Reach adds nothing, I'd be pretty disappointed.
