You tell that to me when I've just done a 15 hour shoot with few breaks which stared at 2 am. Or after I've just finished a long editing job where I had to watch the sequence hundreds of times to make sure its up to scratch. I have a mate that works at a local television station that has to get up at 2 in the morning every day and because its live work every second is accounted for meaning its really quit frenetic work. People that pursue the "glamorous" industries seriously, know well that its extremely hard work. People that have the dream but don't understand the reality get crushed soon enough. |
I used to do editing, that shit was tedious. Especially for the TV show I was doing it for, "Talk About the Good Times of Golf" (never again).

If there weren't so many social programs that make it too easy for people then we'd be harder workers.
Oh also if there weren't unions workers would work harder.

As much as editing can be tremendously rewarding on a great project doing it for long periods of time makes you feel like a zombie. I've got a mate thats a full time editor and after a while he just goes insane and needs to do something else.

This. Can't fight the future. Generation Y knows what they want and they go for it. Baby Boomers killed their dreams to do crap they didn't want to do and try and fix it via a midlife crisis. Applaud that if you want to...

Some of the Generalisations and negative stereotyping of Gen Y are as follows:
Gen Y are considered self-centred and everything revolves around them.
Gen Y's think they know everything. But they know almost nothing.
Gen Y think their opinion is the only one that matters.
Gen Y are rude and arrogant and extremely lazy.
Gen Y are all dreamers. But with no plans to achieve these huge dreams.
Gen Y have been over protected and have lived their lives in cotton wool.
Gen Y are not the people you want to be on your side. They would turn their back on you when the going gets tough. Gen Y get going and never look back.
Gen Y have no loyalty to anyone or anything. Their constant change in jobs is a true indication of having no loyalty.
Gen Y like to blame Gen X and Baby Boomers for all the problems in the world. Gen Y have contributed as much to the problems in the world as the older generations.
Gen Y are disrepectful and show no respect to anyone.
Well it seems I just made Generation Z, using that definition, so this isn't my fight. But from the looks of it Generation Z won't be much better than Y.

I'm just going to say it. You're an asshole. Genralising an entire generation of people. That's just plain biggotry. I used to think the idea of ageism was a bit silly, but you've single handedly changed my mind.
"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

And who decided that this generation is any more lazy and foolish than the pot-smoking, idealistic baby boomers? Seriously, what a bunch of pretentious bullshit. I was born in 1985 (so I'd be a member of this generation), and I work incredibly hard. Frankly, there are so many better names for this generation too. For example, you could call us the Information Generation, since we grew up during the rise of the free flow of information. But no, let's just be lazy and call it Generation Y because the last one was Generation X. Fuck it makes me mad. Arrogant assholes. Oh, and I'd be more worried about the baby boomers. Look at how the world is shaping up under them. |
Well, the theory was... Generation X was X-Treme!!! And Generation Y is Generation Why? because we don't give a shit about anything.
All of them are ridiculous if you ask me. Only name that made sense was the Baby Boomers. But all the stereotypes are really stupid, in every direction.

Are you kidding me? If it weren't for unions we'd still be putting 12 year olds in factories and chaining them to the machines for 14 hour work days 6 days a week. The first unions were hereoes who fought for worker's rights... TO THE DEATH. Factory owners shot them all the time. If you're working less than 80 hours a week, you have unions to thank.

Ditto. For a while I had 2 thankless, pointless dead end jobs. For a while I had 3. For a while I had 2 at once while I was in school. I have never had a job with any room to grow, and I have never had a job that couldn't be replaced at any time. Not complaining though. Just keep looking for more work and/or better work. Don't see the point of this stupid arrogant offensive thread.
