Forums - Sony - Love the Heavy Rain demo, not impressed with graphics

I'm a long-time P&C fan as most of you know, including a fan of Indigo Prophecy which Heavy Rain is very similar to. That said, after all those bullshots I'm extremely disappointed with the visual fidelity of the game. It's not just not "top-of-the-line." It's actually below what I would usually consider standard, in many areas, for PS3. It's technically possible the graphics could be better outside the demo, but it's not very likely. I hope they get better. If not, oh well. The music and atmosphere is great at least.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Are you playing on HDTV? Were you expecting Crysis graphic? Are you comparing HD Console with PC? Are you comparing with Uncharted 2?

If you answer "no" for the first question and "yes" for the last three i can comprehend. Otherwise i will strongly (and respectfully) disagree.

I'm with Naz on this one, I didn't find the graphics that technically amazing, but they did have a great atmosphere about them. Personally I think the final game will look better so that's where Naz and I start disagreeing.

...

What can you compate it to thats similar? How does it compare to Mass Effect 2... I don't know what games are like this and can be used as visual comparison

Yes, no.

I agree. The graphics of Heavy Rain were always overrated, and the look of the characters is nowhere near the uncanny valley.

I love P&C too and believe the game will be good anyway.

Aslong as the boobies are up to Full HD standards!

I think the biggest issues I had were with the outdoor scenes and the foliage/grass seen in them. Character models were generally very good, though movement was pretty stiff, and lacked any sort of actual flow to it. I don't think the graphical issues were consistent. The game looks great in some areas, and sort of fake in others.

I hope you do realize that smaller studios don't always have the technical and financial means to set the bar that high. You might be disappointed with most game releases.
