It might be around to 2012... but no longer. Even then, the Wii won't continue to sell above 10 million in 2012 and 2011 (if the new console it out by then), unless Nintendo really flops with its next piece of hardware. I would bet on their next console having amazing sales... Although, it is possible for Nintendo to support Wii fully with its next console out... but I don't think they would want the Wii getting in the way of their next system's potential. Backwards compatibility?

Why wouldnt they support the Wii for as long as possible?
The Nes was supported for 12 years in the US and for 20 years in Japan
The Snes was supported for 9 years in the US and 13 in Japan
So there is no reason to think that Nintendo would support the Wii for less then 9-10 years

Longevity is not a matter of companies, it is a matter of success.
Anyone who says the "sony consoles are kept on the market for a very long time", "Nintendo consoles always last 5 years" only looks at the surface.
Of course, the two Sony consoles that were on the market for the longest time, also happened to be the two most successful consoles ever, and THIS is why they were so well-supported, they had longevity.
Compared to them, the Nintendo consoles were moderately successful, so they got moderate support, and the xbox 1 was the biggest failure excluding crashes, so it was discontinued after 4 years.
The Wii is the next most popular thing ever, with even more momentum, obviously it will also have EVEN MORE LONGEVITY than the PS2.

Agreed. The only reason N64 and Cube were supported for 5 years is because they only SOLD for 5 years. Nintendo's more successful consoles, the NES and Super NES, were both supported and milked for 10+ years, so there is no reason to believe Nintendo wouldn't do the same for Wii.
Like I've said before, 2012 is a good year to release their next console IMO, reason being that would make the lifespan six years, which was how long the PS2 was heavilly supported before PS3, and Wii is tracking similar to PS2 in sales. Also, Wii should have around 3 more years of strong sales left in it. Motion plus is just now getting going and Vitality Sensor has not even come out yet, which is another potential massive hit to carry the Wii further.
So 2012 for the new console, maybe 2014 or 2015 to completely cut support of Wii and shift focus exclusively to the new console.

Well, with a console as well selling as the Wii, it could get in the way of Nintendo's next system. In many ways, it seems like the PS2 got in the way of the PS3, and it seems like a casual crowd who go for the cheap console puts Nintendo at more of a risk, although, I'm not trained to make these predictions. In my opinion, I think it would be smarter for Nintendo to get the next system as cheap as possible and wean out the Wii.

the PS2 got in the way because of Sony´s incompetence in pricing the ps 3 as high as they did, if the price would have been more market friendly both their systems would have had an healthy life side by side for the whole of this gen so far just as the Nes and the Snes did and the PS 1 and PS 2 did.
If Nintendo is reasnoable in their pricing for the next console the Wii wont be getting in the way their next console and it would be stupid to fase the console out as there are plenty of their customers that will hang on to the Wii for as long as they can before they switch just like any other winning console in history, thats why the winning console gets to live longer then the competin ones because the userbase is more varied and have lots of the late adopters that hang on as long as they can before switching.
