Forums - Sales Discussion - I think Heavy Rain will be a commercial success

You don't have to bring up the sales of a 360 (console) exclusive here! Mass Effect 2 was a great game, yes, but it was also the sequel to a great game, and more traditional than Heavy Rain, and also had a large amount of support and marketing from Microsoft.

LOL!

Back in the late 90s, a movie like experience was a selling point. Now it is apparently a turn off. Where are the graphic whores when you need them the most? They would eat Heavy Rain up.

Well define commercial success. It'll blow previous Quantic Dream games out of the water, but I can only see it doing well in Europe.

I'm getting it day 1, but I really don't think something as experimental as this is a recipe for commercial success. Especially in America. We sure love our shooters.

I never get why games that are story driven are turn offs for American gamers while they do great in Japan and Europe.

You know what, I don't fucking get it either. Prime example is Uncharted catching on first in Europe, then America waay later as word spread. Granted, yeah, cliche story, but the game was extremely story based for a TPS.

I can only hope Alan Wake does well to prove all is not lost; after all it is on the more popular NA console and should have a better shot.

I dont really think an interactive movie will do that well. It will sell ok due to it being a PS exclusive. If its anything like Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit I doubt it will do well. I remember that game took the fast track to the clearance bin.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

the game will do 2 million LTD quite easily in fact. I'm willing to bet the JAPANESE will buy this NON-JAPANASE game, and that will make all the difference (over 300K LTD in Japan).

I'm willing to bet  it won't hit 100K in Japan. Probably not even 1/5 of your prediction.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Being cliched is a not a bad thing.  I keep hearing how JRPG stories are very cliched but you know what, being cliched is the least of the problems with JRPG storytelling.
