Forums - Nintendo Discussion - More GDC/New Nintendo console/handheld potential

Realistically, what is possible, and how much it will cost, could easily fit alongside the 360's current value.

I don't see why they wouldn't upgrade, and @Bamboleo, that is exactly what i would be expecting alongside an HDMI connection.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

"DSi's graphics bump did nothing for that system either, whats your point?"

It got more RAM and some storage, not more graphics.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

oa rumor is still a rumor, but who knows?

i personally believe it makes sense to announce a Ds2, i mean graphics are way too old, but at the same time, it is not necessary to announce a Ds2 right now, since Ds is still having huge success and great games (well, from Nintendo)

Wii HD sounds ok, but that update is not nesessary either, but come to think of it, Dsi XL is such a pointless update, who knows what Nintendo is thinking?

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Yeah, but this seems unlikely because:

1- In a recent interviw, Reggie said that before launching a new console, they wil lfullfill the potencial of the Wii, adding that they aren't nowhere near of this.
2- They have lot's of games for this year, and problably next year too.

3- Also, does anybody remember this? http://www.siliconera.com/2009/08/24/nintendo-developing-a-squishy-football-controller/

Or killer acessory?

Above: still the best game of the year.

My guess: Virtual Handheld for DSi.

DS is doing fine, especially so long after it peaked, but if Nintendo has found something new for their handhelds, this would be the time.

When watching the Microsoft Courier video a little while ago, I started to think of a dual touch-screen clamshell handheld gaming system ...

If you hold a DS-Lite in your hand and you imagine the screen being extended to where the current abxy buttons are (with the symmetric change happening to the other screen) and then have those 4 buttons on a "Slider" device that are on some phones you would end up having more screen real estate than any other device that can be put in a pocket; you could put the d-pad on a slider aswell/instead of the abxy buttons but that might be excessive and add additional complexity to the system.

The reason I think you could hide the buttons/d-pad is that the touch screen (in particular a dual touch screen) is becoming a more dominant way to interact with a portable device and the buttons/d-pad might not be necessary for most games.

those are mostly rumors really, and why in gdc?

No, no new consoles will be released anymore, possibly 2015 onwards

Because the other rumour was that a console, of some description, was going to be shown there.
