Wii should spike up once xenoblade and DQX are released. DQX will do more difference for sure.

DQX? That game will not be out this year.

Has that been confirmed, it could come out earlier than we thought, but if not it should come in 2011.

It won't come out in 2011 either...

DQIX was released less than a year ago, I would say at least 3 years in between both. 2012 would be a miracle IMO.

We should defintly have it before 2018, the gap could increase all of a suddent between DQ IX, but at least we are getting a DQ game this year.

We are getting 2 DQ games this year in fact, but none is for the Wii, both are for the DS actually. So a bump from a DQ game for the Wii this year isn't gonna happen.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

DQ X won't be released in 2014, that's sure. 2010 seems unlikely and 2011 seems the right year for it...there's a lot of people claiming Wii 2 in 2010, it won't last for another 4 years! Probably Wii 2 will be launched in 2012, so DQ seems probable next year.

Anyway I think Wii wii be slightly over PS3 this week, but some good games are needed (Xenoblade).

Not gona happen, DQX won't be released in 2011 by any means. We will be extremely lucky to get it by the end of 2012, the games won't all of a sudden be made quicker without any reason. The fact is that there's only 1 team working on the main games, and it takes them time to make the games, and even more considering Wii is a new platform. Previous games on the NES and SNES were made faster because their sequels were on the same platform on the same platform. Notice whenever there was a platform change, dev times grew bigger. Also dev times increased as the years passed due to the new technologies. Considering Wii is a new platform and uses new technology, expecting it before Holidays 2012 is irrational.

DQIX was already released last year in Japan. This year they are getting Dragon Quest VI remake and Dragon Quest Monster Joker 2.

Wada said he expects Wii's successor in 2011, I sort of think that means they're at least planning to release DQX before/by then. I'm betting fall 2011, which would be just over 2 years after DQIX. Of course there's also always good chance that it'll hit some snag and get delayed (just like DQVII/VIII/IX all were actually).

Considering when DQX was announced, I think Armor Project and Level-5 likely started preproduction well before DQIX even released. The infrequency of DQ releases is something Square Enix has lamented before, and with FF now also getting more infrequent (and costly!), I can see Wada taking action to try and speed things up.

Wada expects Wii's successor in 2011, but that would mean that the Wii lasted as long as the GC did, which seems unlikely and contradicts Nintendo themselves. I don't think we will see DQX until at least late 2012, which would be a huge improvement over the last games considering dev time. Also, the announcement date has little to do with it, I'm sure there's always planning being made for the next game even before they release the one they are working at currently. Also, DQ games since VII tend to appear close the consoles last days, probably to have a huge install base at the moment of launch.

I could see 2012 definitely happening, but I still think internally they're probably "shooting for" 2011.  Still, DQVII was originally supposed to be released in 1998 on PlayStation, and before that even in 1997 on the 64DD (lol!).  DQVIII was originally planned for 2002-2003 on PS2, DQIX for 2007 on DS.  Delays seem like standard practice with the series the past decade. :/

I bet they announce it for next fiscal year  in Japan (April 2011-March 2012), and it's has a 50/50 chance of slipping past that. Japan will also get a DQVII remake this fiscal year then (probably winter, Dec-Feb) from Arte Piazza or Genius Sonority or someone.  And I also think we'll see DQI-VI on the Virtual Console leading up to DQX.

OP updated with new release dates, numbers from this week yet to come.

Looks like this week goes to the Wii, an unexpected rise from last week to beat the PS3 by a considerable margin.

WTF? Wii really *shouldn't* be winning imo.

Nintendo *needs* a kick in the ass, their Q1 2010 is exactly like Q1 2009 all over again, which was something even Iwata complained about. :/
