I don't think it's the biggest stretch.  Pretty amazing though, to see such weakness from a market leader.  Is there a precedent for this?

I'd argue DS is actually the Japanese market leader though.  Wii's really 2nd (software) or 3rd (hardware) place.

I'd argue if this were any other market because of the console/handheld divide, but Japan is so handheld-centric it's borderline craziness! lol  yeah makes sense.  PS3 may surprise some people in the long run though, I think it has a good while ahead of it.

I think PS3 is best positioned to survive the 3DS assault in 2011, and it wouldn't surprise me if it actually outsold DS and PSP even that year (both of which I expect to fall off massively).  360 will probably remain flat-ish, while Wii drops steeply (though it'll still get that DQX bump, unless that's 2012.

And yeah, Japan's pretty much embraced handhelds as "equal" to consoles this gen.  It totally wasn't the case with GB or GBA, but it really is with DS and PSP.  DS has actually sold more 3rd party software than all the consoles combined and doubled in Japan this gen. :/

Don't get me wrong, I love my DS, and will be getting Pokemon Black (maybe both lol), but c'mon Japan, it isn't THAT much better than everything else lmao.  I feel bad for the PS3 and Wii, they have so many worthwhile games, but the handhelds just own their souls.  360.....eh.  Not doin' it in Japan, killing it everywhere else though.    Is gaming on the move and local online interactions (like trading pokes on DS and hunting monsters together on PSP) seriously that big in Japan?  I know the DS is awesome, but.......damn. Don't know what else to say haha.

In terms of software sales?  Yeah, DS really is that much better...

...someone can probably correct me, but I believe DS has already sold more software overall than any home console in Japan but PS2.  And really, it'll probably pass PS2 too.

Wii and PS3 are kind of pathetic this gen, but considering them in 3rd/4th place, and they actually start to look pretty good. :D

No I don't mean sales, hell no! haha  I just meant games and general awesomeness.  The PS3 and Wii have superb lineups, just too bad the sales don't translate.  Can't wait for 3DS and PSP2!

So now after the pokemon rush we're coming to an october which looks fairly strong for both wii and PS3

We have:

Move & Winning 11 & usual hits    VS    Kirby & Mario Collection

Will the wii regain some momentum finally? Will we also see a pricedrop after the rumors are starting to fly? Questions to be answered i guess
