Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata: GC could have had 3D games

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=113348

Iwata: To tell you the truth, GameCube is secretly designed to load graphical circuits which display graphics for right and left eyes respectively, for a future possibility of realizing 3D gaming experience. So actually we have had interest on this technology, but I have some doubt about everyone needing glasses to play.

I guess that means the Wii could, too, given architectural similarities, and they foresaw it long before the excitement about 3D re-emerged.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

This is starting to annoy me - we could this before, we had that before...

This is something; hopefully, they didint remove the components when they created the wii.

What game would be better with that?

I feel like F-Zero would be cool in 3D...

so why dident we see 3D games then?

why? are you really taken by surprise when you KNOW Nintendo is a very innovative company that experiments, UNLIKE Sony or MS?

look at the Virtual Boy..they HAD a 3D system going

so ....eh....sorry buddy, but Nintendo is e-mazing

Iwata has been on a little 'salt in wounds' streak. Either that or he's got some kind of backwards view of thinking if he simply states that 'we could have done it' for everything, that it would have trumped the actually functionality of the machine doing it later.

Either way, we'll see probably after E3.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Nintendo ahead of everyone else? no shit

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

"This is starting to annoy me - we could this before, we had that before..."

And it's been annoying me for a while that these things are still considered vital to gaming when Nintendo has show games don't sell on those.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
